02 - week two

WEEK TWO

When the glitter settles and everyone returns to their dorms - or wherever they intend to sleep for the night, if you’re planning on sleeping at all - your first week of school officially ends. Perhaps it was better than you expected, perhaps it was worse.

Hopefully you learned a bit more about teamwork and school spirit.

Still, this course is going to run for longer than a full week, and come Sunday morning you’re still exactly as you were when you settled down for the night. Still in Estelline, still with that mark on your wrist, still connected to your partner. There are some changes, though. The bookstore has received quite a few books, and those of you who added to the bulletin board and pep rally tasks in the first week will find an envelope taped to their dorm door (or themselves, if they spent the night elsewhere). Inside of the envelope is some kind of voucher! Furthermore, the common area is covered in a bunch of glitter.

Also, there are a ton of eggs in the kitchen – at least 10 dozens.

Florence or Lorelei are still available, should you wish to speak to them.

Finally, you've got some new locations to explore.

OOC NOTE

OOC: Anyone who performed in the Pep Rally (Sabo, Madara, Riku, Shizuku, Herlock, Idia, Flat, Miach) task will be able to redeem a voucher for a prize with one of the NPCs. This can be handwaved, and the prize selection is below.

-Single-serve coffee machine wither a selection of creamer. Comes with packs of coffee beans.
-Popcorn maker and kernels.
-High-quality tea kettle with a selection of just as high-quality tea.
-Carbonation machine (think Sodastream, etc) with flavored syrup.

Any coffee, tea, popcorn, etc. will last characters up to two weeks.

[This morning you wake up, and while at first you don't feel any different, it might not take you long to realize that something isn't quite right. You're just a bit clumsier than you were the day before. You might find yourself knocking things over, or tripping over cracks in the sidewalk… nothing major, and it would be something you could easily just dismiss as an off day.

Except it’s not only that - every time something falls or breaks or you stub your toe, you find yourself getting kind of upset. Maybe it's frustrating you keep bumping into things, or it makes you angry that you keep tripping, or you're sad you broke that cute mug from the gift store... whatever it is, your new clumsiness is getting to you.]

OOC Note: For those of you in the CYOA, this will not be happening during the duration of the CYOA, and it won't feel like there's something missing or odd about that, so don't worry about needing to retcon this in!

Anyway, room 8 has its door slightly open with a doorstopper (a rock) so if anyone wants to come in, they can. Hien's on the bed and grumbling at his tablet under the blanket.

Also, if anyone plays obnoxious music in the next door common area on Tuesday for too long, Hien will attempt to turn this premise into a murdergame. He's about had it. ]

[This morning, those who had been in Group 5 in this past Saturday’s lesson will find a box with their name on it outside of their dorm room. Opening the box will reveal a black bag matching the diagram Rideaux used in his presentation, with six compartments and a lock on the clasp. The bag is quite roomy, but it’s hard to say whether or not it actually is larger on the inside than the outside while the bag is empty, and after filling it… It might be? But it’s not by a significant amount. The fabric is sturdy and easy to clean, though you’ll have to test for yourself how monsterproof it is.

It does have an insulated compartment, at least, that feels cool when you stick your hand in it, and two of the compartments have thick padding that you’re reasonably confident will be enough protection to keep a glass bottle from breaking if you dropped the bag. Each compartment has a number (one through six) embroidered on a small tag, and if you ask the bag where an item you stored in it is, it will reply with the number of the compartment it’s in with 99% accuracy.

The biometric lock is in place, and there’s a notecard inside with directions on how to set it. You can store up to two scans, just in case you feel like trusting a friend, and it has the manual cover. This feature is the one that works precisely as the pitch described 100% of the time.]

[After a morning of joint idol practice that ended up more frustrating than anything (thanks to the clumsiness outbreak), Madara set off on his own. Well, "on his own" is relative, of course, as he's sure to run into people (probably literally right now), but he's walking off the frustration and heading straight for the mall.

He checks out the parking lot, because it's kind of... creepy in his opinion, like a liminal space gone off some deep end. Then he heads inside.

At the arcade, he plays a few games, but gives up when the coordination issues make him increasingly more frustrated. If there's anyone else nearby, he's liable to snap at them rather than saying anything nice, especially if he's startled. Still, he makes his way out with three rather large animal plushies and two smaller ones. He'll take those back to the dorms.

However, on the way out of the mall, he stops to investigate the jewelry store in particular. Something doesn't sit right with him about all these expensive things just sitting out, like someone's just walked off and left it. He looks around for signs of life in general in there, like checking the glass for a layer of dust and knocking on a few of the cases just to see whether they're glass or plastic.

After that, he'll grab some idol necessities from the cosmetic shop before heading to the dorms to deliver the plushies to Shizuku, Riku, and Cater with honorable mention smaller plushies for Idia and Owen. His frustration levels haven't simmered down at all, but he's trying to apologize for some perceived snappishness in the morning!]

[Looking around, it does seem like things were just... left there. There's a fine layer of dust on everything from the register to the displays, but asides from the dust it seems like a place that was kept relatively neat and tidy. There's no excessive grime on the floor and all of the jewelry in the cases have retained their shine, so he can probably assume this place can't have been abandoned for very long.

The display cases are definitely glass, too, and there's nothing really stopping him from looking into things more closely if there's anything else he wants to check out.]

[The layer of dust not being very thick, along with everything else, makes him wonder if it's a matter of days or weeks. It'd depend on the HVAC system, really. He looks up just to locate vents and things, then slips behind the counter.

First thing he's looking for is a something like a drawer that might have keys in it. The second thing he's looking for is an exit, or rather, a way to a back room or the "guts" of the mall.]

[The plushie barricade... it grows.

Madara will, most likely, find Cater in his room, tucked up against the headboard of his bed, playing his guitar, because if nothing else, it's safe there. He can't trip over anything if he's not up and walking around, and while he has snapped strings on his fingers a few times (which only succeeded in convincing him something fishy was going on... he never does that!!), they haven't broken, at least.

( when madara finds shizuku, she's comfortably nestled in... an abundance of blankets arranged more like a nest than anything, plinking away on the kalimba. it's actually a gentle, if not possibly familiar song- though she perks up and maybe misses a note when she sees him. whoops! )

Madara! Hi, did you go exploring?

[He didn't mean to startle her... He looks a little guilty until she sounds happy to see him, at which point he lights right up. And presents her with the oversized penguin-adjacent plushie.]

[ As if this place wasn't hellish enough, this happens.

He hadn't thought much of his stumbling on the way to the bakery. It happens, even for him. What does strike him as concerning is that, when he finally brews a cup of actually decent tea and goes to take a sip--

He drops it. Of course, he leaps back a short distance to avoid being splashed by hot tea, but this turns out to be a devastating mistake. Gentaro, in his attempt to get away, actually ends up falling. For a moment, he's too stunned to react. That's when the embarrassment settles in, along with a distinct feeling of frustration and irritation.

It sure would be a terrible disaster if anyone had seen that, huh?

Later on, he's at the stationery store. While he has plenty of notebooks, today, he's searching for a pen. The pens up to this moment have been... fine, but they're just not familiar or comfortable compared to his pens from home. Eventually, he finds a few pens--five, to be exact, just in case--and chooses a few bottles of ink and barrels. He's pretty focused, so he's not immediately alerted to anyone's presence. Once he notices someone's around, he gives them a slight smile. ]

Finding the stationery of your dreams, I hope.

[ Finally, later at night, he's in the bar with a small glass of wine and his increasingly ever-present notebook. He's here for the atmosphere, but he's not averse to striking up conversation. ]

[ SIR, ARE YOU OKAY. Riku saw him eat shit but also, while he's on his way to meet Gentaro, he also eats it by tripping on...himself? Who knows. He's just on the floor. ]

[ So it isn't just him. He tries to find comfort in that, but he absolutely takes no pleasure in seeing Riku fall?!

Gentaro very carefully gets to his feet and makes his way over to Riku. With a great deal of caution, he holds his hand out to help him up. ]

It seems I am not alone in losing my sense of balance. [ But it sure doesn't make him feel much better! ] Are you alright?

[ He takes his hand and gets up to his feet with a sigh. ]

Aside from my horribly wounded pride and annoyance at my current state, I am quite alright.

[Well. Watching people tripping over themselves is making his lingering bad mood lighten up, at least, even if he's also been tripping over himself more than usual.

(But after the flurry of emotions that causes it's eased up with the knowledge that, hey, Riku's going to be stinging from those falls and bumps too.)]
