06 - week six
WEEK SIX
Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.
It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.
SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY

But also stares at this thread. Stares at our concurrent one.]
Hm. In that case, I will inform you if I develop a sense of humor, and you can inform me if it meets your standard of “good” or not.

and....
I like the sound of that, and I'll be curious to see what you end up finding funny. I feel like you'd be someone who would enjoy dry humor.

But does this mean Sabo trusts Florence more than Kyle. :nyan:]
Dry humor? What is that like? As well as wet humor.
no subject
but :nyanhm: does sabo trust florence more than kyle? probably by the end of the day. ]
There's not really such a thing as "wet humor", but dry humor is where a person often will make a joke or say something funny with a serious, calm expression. It tends to sarcastic.
[ you know, kind of like how florence is now? except if florence knew how to make a joke... ]

If that is dry humor, than wet humor would simply be the most different form of humor of that, yes? That would make more sense than having one but not the other.

[ oh sweet florence.... ]
The types of humor that I've found are slapstick, self-depreciating, surreal, dry, wordplay, bodily, and dark. I guess you could also argue that there's highbrow and lowbrow humor but the nine I mentioned above are the more common ones.
[ I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS THE CONVO THEY'RE HAVING WITH SABO OF ALL PEOPLE. ]

That is more forms of humor than I was expecting; for all of them to be unique there must be more to what makes something "funny" than I realized.
[poor sabo, but he probably expects the next question.]
What are the hallmarks of each type of humor?
no subject
As I've said, what I find funny may not be the same as something someone else. Now I don't think I need to explain dry humor in any real more detail than I have since it heavily depends on the delivery.
[ weeps in how to explain something in an ic way. ]
Slapstick humor is where laughter happens as a result of something physically occurring to the subject. Someone slipping on a banana peel and then falling over is a "classic" example. I'm confident that you can figure out self-depreciating and wordplay humor; surreal humor is derived from building up expectations only to meet them with a nonsensical solution—like using a flamingo as a mallet for a ball game.
Bodily humor is focused around the body. [ frowns. ] It's something I found funny as a kid and on occasion now, but using farts is very common in this kind of humor. Dark humor is typically about depressing or morbid things such as making light of death.

Are these things funnier when they are not just simply described to someone?
[...]
You did not explain highbrow or lowbrow.
no subject
Yes, sometimes that is the case. It's also dependent on the way that it is explained as half of the experience is how it's delivered.
And highbrow humor are usually something more intellectual based and require deeper knowledge about a particular subject or topic. Lowbrow humor is the opposite of that with the humor being considered more vulgar and don't need as much knowledge to understand.
no subject
Hm.
[Interesting…]
Is there any sign besides laughter as to whether or not something was successfully humorous?
no subject
I suppose there could be, but laughter is the most obvious way to tell. I know there are people who aren't great with expressing themselves so for people like them a smile would be considered a success.

[thinking emoji…]
I understand. [do they tho] Should I inform you of if such a thing happens?
no subject
Of course! I'd love to see what you can manage.
no subject
I will try not to disappoint you. I have apparently already greatly improved my ability to express myself.
