06 - week six

WEEK SIX
Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.

It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.

SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY

FLORENCE / LORELEI

[gotta say i can't believe this conversation is happening at all]

That is more forms of humor than I was expecting; for all of them to be unique there must be more to what makes something "funny" than I realized.

[poor sabo, but he probably expects the next question.]

What are the hallmarks of each type of humor?

[ it's fine. if anyone is good for this, then it's sabo... ]

As I've said, what I find funny may not be the same as something someone else. Now I don't think I need to explain dry humor in any real more detail than I have since it heavily depends on the delivery.

[ weeps in how to explain something in an ic way. ]

Slapstick humor is where laughter happens as a result of something physically occurring to the subject. Someone slipping on a banana peel and then falling over is a "classic" example. I'm confident that you can figure out self-depreciating and wordplay humor; surreal humor is derived from building up expectations only to meet them with a nonsensical solution—like using a flamingo as a mallet for a ball game.

Bodily humor is focused around the body. [ frowns. ] It's something I found funny as a kid and on occasion now, but using farts is very common in this kind of humor. Dark humor is typically about depressing or morbid things such as making light of death.

[These are, in fact, explanations. Whether they actually mean Florence will understand humor is still up in the air.]

Are these things funnier when they are not just simply described to someone?

[...]

You did not explain highbrow or lowbrow.

[ as long as florence is educated in the world of humor then??? ]

Yes, sometimes that is the case. It's also dependent on the way that it is explained as half of the experience is how it's delivered.

And highbrow humor are usually something more intellectual based and require deeper knowledge about a particular subject or topic. Lowbrow humor is the opposite of that with the humor being considered more vulgar and don't need as much knowledge to understand.

[this is the real endgame boss,]

Hm.

[Interesting…]

Is there any sign besides laughter as to whether or not something was successfully humorous?

[ i'm glad that i'm getting a head's start on it then. ]

I suppose there could be, but laughter is the most obvious way to tell. I know there are people who aren't great with expressing themselves so for people like them a smile would be considered a success.

So, involuntary physical responses.

[thinking emoji…]

I understand. [do they tho] Should I inform you of if such a thing happens?

[ DO THEY? ]

Of course! I'd love to see what you can manage.

[Maybe!]

I will try not to disappoint you. I have apparently already greatly improved my ability to express myself.
