W6 SATURDAY

It’s Saturday…and things seem a little more standard, this time, when Lorelei makes a quick announcement on the tablets again at 8am:

”Good morning, students. It’s time for your sixth…and final official lesson. Yes. What this means is that this is the final detected orb located here, and while this does not indicate the end of the course just yet, it is the final day for your evaluation. Florence will meet you in front of the grocery store at 8pm tonight. Please do not be late. You are also free to bring a self-defense weapon with you, and any pain-alleviating items you have received. Nothing else will be allowed.”

She seems to be her usual self this time, and this certainly seems a lot kinder than the "trust exercise" from last week.

With the memories of last week’s lesson still lingering, a bit of wariness would be understandable. Still, Florence did say that this week shouldn’t be nearly so bad - whether you believe them or not is up to you - and they’re there at the grocery store, ready for another lesson.

They do seem a bit distracted, as it takes them a moment before they address everyone.

“Hello. Today’s lesson will be focused purely on cooperation. It is another journey into an orb, so things may be unpredictable, but nothing so severe…”

They trail off, before nodding at nothing.

“There is a storm. You must prepare to survive it, and prepare for any other eventualities. As I said, it may be unpredictable. I will be around to help in any way I possibly can.”

With that, it’s off into another orb - and the lush island on the other side. Surely this won’t be too hard, right?

OOC NOTE

Welcome to Week 6 Saturday's event. As Lorelei stated above, this is the final orb lesson for the game. Characters will have to work together to survive on a deserted island through an oncoming storm. How this will work OOCly is simple:

There will be three phases. Planning, gathering, and constructing. Planning will be short and mostly designed to have everyone gather their bearings and figure out who's doing what. Gathering will be collecting materials to help with their survival. Constructing will involve fortifying your "home base" so to speak.

Gathering and Constructing will run for 2 hours each. At the 1 hour mark for both phases, however, random events will happen that may throw characters off-kilter. There may be other things in between depending on character actions, but you can expect them at the hour mark at the very least. Planning will only last for 30 minutes, unless an extension is needed.

These instructions are not IC. This is for OOC organizational purposes.

We also have a section for people to submit threads so we can track progress and determine the outcome of the event. Qualifying threads must have at least 5 comments from you; more details can be found on the top level below.

The storm will happen at 5pm EST.

[ This is where characters can start literally constructing things for the hut, create a campfire, prepare food and water, etc. We will have something at the 1.5 hour mark so be prepared for that. There will not be any location top levels, but there will be no need for long character top levels like in weeks 2 and 3.

That being said, if characters would still like to gather/fish/etc., they are welcome to do so. ]

[Well, Owen did successfully weasel some people into helping him fish, so now comes... preparing the fish.

He should probably not be allowed a knife, but he does somehow seem to know what to do as he sets to removing guts and scales. It's kind of gross, but he's being surprisingly quiet and cooperative.]

If you have more fish, just leave them here.

[He's not dealing with the crabs, tho. Someone else can handle them.]

I have no fish, but I do have some skill with a knife.

[ And with that, he takes one of the fish and starts to work on it. ]

[ As soon as people get back from gathering, he instructs some people to chop wood into appropriate sizes and the like. ]

If anyone knows how to cook crab, we nabbed a big one. Grab a handsaw. We also found waterproof duct tape so we can wrap that around once we're done. All vines next to the hut please. I got an idea on how to build, but if you have experience, suggestions are more than welcome.

[ Then later to Fai, who's holding out materials for him while he works on fortifying the hut. ]

[ This shouldn't be a question he has to ask Fai, but. ]

[ He's grinning as he hands Hien things. He loves a man who can build! ]

[He's absolute shit at cooking so you don't want Shin anywhere near that part of the process, but he's pretty good with butchering and knifework in general so he can probably help clean this freakishly large crab. ...Or rather, two freakishly large crabs?]

[Don't mind Mama, he's just doing what he's told with the HAND SAW cutting logs into whatever size he's told to for planks for the hut. He'll also be doing any lifting that needs to be done, if help is needed.

But he will hum along, and it's not like he's hiding it.]

I daresay that's more than enough to lift our spirits.

[So yeah not... venturing back into the forest, and now that there's a copious amount of raw food and not enough space to cook it all quickly and efficiently, so. Gonna dig a pit in the sand, first, to get the space ready for a fire pit.

So he's gonna sit here and consider his options! He has a neat little fire going (very neat and extra, extra little), and well... if worst comes to worst... he can roast the bug on his left or chance the strange-looking melon he found on his right. Hmm. ]
