WEEK SIX

Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.

It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.

[ Fai grins when Phantom pushes a fork at him, but he relents and takes it. ]

Ah, I see. I bet he's exhausted... I do hope you're taking good care of him.

[ He has a bite of his cake. ]

But I'm sure you are, if you want me to give him cake.

If I tried to take care of him, that would have him on his feet again in a hurry. And running. If possible, he would dislike it even more than I would.

[But Phantom can muffle his grumbling with cake.]

...It's very good. I wish I'd seen your cafe.

[partymagician]

[ Wow... they sound like a bickering couple to Fai, but he knows better than to say that... ]

I wish you could have too. It was cute! But maybe one day I'll have another cafe and you can stop by.

[ Unlikely, but there's no reason to not dream about it. ]

Another time, then. I'll plan on that.

[You know, as much as they can even consider a nebulous future. Phantom doesn't see any downsides to daydreams right now.]

Good. I'll be keeping an eye out for you, and whatever you order will be on the house.

[ ... ]

You're too generous. Someone will take advantage, you know.

[Probably not Phantom, he can't actually eat that much.

But, ah. That. He focuses on the cake for a moment, taking a bite of just frosting. It's impossible to brood while eating sugary things, probably.]

...It's unlikely that I'll see him again, if we make it out of this at all. He has his own place to return to. But I'll pass along the thought.

Ah, really? But I thought you were from the same world...

[ Hmmm...

Fai doesn't know what to think! ]

I have no intention of going back there. Of course, I don't know yet what will be possible. But if we were brought here in the first place there should be a way.

[Phantom brightens a little at that. Whatever else, the magic theory of it is interesting.]

Hmmm...

[ Fai looks at Phantom for a few moments as he takes another bite of cake. ]

If we get our powers back before we leave, I can take you to another world. Of course, you'll be on your own after that, but the offer stands.

[exofractured]

It must be hard to believe from seeing me here. But if I had my powers back, being on my own would be no difficulty.

[At least in the strict survival sense. Kind of. But Phantom seems a little more cheerful as he resumes eating his cake.]

Of course, I still intend to do my own research on your curse, wherever I end up. I suppose it's a bit early to plan. But... thank you.

Of course. Transporting only you shouldn’t be too much trouble.

[ He’ll be tired for a couple days since that’s a lot of magical energy to use after he’s already transported himself, but he can let Hien take care of everything else for him after. ]

If you want any tips on what to do when you get to another world, let me know. I fully believe you can manage on your own, but worlds come with their own surprises.

[This is a lot of favors he's starting to accept from Fai, but that just means he'll have to figure out something about the curse. He'll definitely pay this back.]

Yes, this one was a prime example. I'd appreciate that. It will be something of a first for me.

If you can, take some of the things you’ve gotten here and try to sell them.

[ Fai has another bite of cake. ]

That’ll give you some money for food and shelter while you look for work.

[Phantom nods earnestly, somehow looking like he's taking mental notes even while he's preoccupied with his cake.]

What kind of work can mages usually find? It's embarrassing to admit it, but I really only have the one skill.

[partymagician]

General research, usually. Or you can get a job at a shop. Through that, I'm sure you could meet people that will teach you other skills.

[ He thinks that would be easiest on Phantom. ]

...That's practical. People are more willing to do things like that than I would have imagined. And I'd like to see what kind of research is done in other worlds.

[Phantom might be the only person who's actually, accidentally, grown through this experiment. But after all this it's easier to believe that people would help him.]

[ Proud of you, Phantom. ]

People can be surprisingly kind.

[ Despite all the cruelty in his past, Fai does like to think that a lot of people are kind. ]

It's fun to see what other worlds do, or what they have up their sleeves. Maybe you could learn a whole new style of magic.
