WEEK SIX

Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.

It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.

[ Hien hasn't heard of that, but he'll try to be understanding about it. ]

Do you mean ramune?

Possibly. It's something that eccentric writer mentioned. He may have invented it.

[But apparently like half the time it sounded like he was lying it was Not so, what does Phantom think, really.]

Oh. Tamatama.

[ He misses his neighbors already... they were so loud but always interesting to listen in on. ]

I'm pretty sure he didn't invent ramune. I actually tried once, but it didn't work out.

[ Funny thing about going to worlds that don't recognize a product is when Hien tries to claim he's the inventor of all sorts of stuff and patent them. Worst. ]

[Phantom would need something as painful as the last Saturday to admit he misses Tamamori, probably. So he won't.

Sadly he also lacks the context to fully recognize Hien's crimes.]

...Why not? And why would you try to invent a drink like that in the first place?

It makes it my property. Also, ramune is fairly popular drink in the region, so I'd make a ton of money.

[ Yeah. Is that enough context for his crimes yet. ]

[Phantom is going to live the rest of his life thinking ramune tastes like ramen, but at least he understands Hien's crimes now.

It startles a laugh out of him when it finally sinks in.]

You're surprisingly petty for someone so powerful.

I usually don't have the related currency when I go to a new world. The fact that we started with comfortable living spaces assigned to us was a blessing, honestly. I thought I'd have to sleep under the chairs.

So I do things in whatever ways I feel like.

It's a convenient way to make use of your powers. Although if they hadn't blocked our abilities here in the first place, I would have made more comfortable living arrangements than this.

...You don't count using your knowledge from other worlds to try to invent something as using your powers?

[Far be it from anyone to claim Phantom is lawfully aligned but like. Hien.]

He grabs a 2 liter soda bottle though. It's something similar to Fanta orange. ]

You're not allergic to oranges, are you? Let's give this one a taste.

I don't think I am. There should be cups somewhere.

[Hang on, Phantom's going to trot an aisle or two over to grab some. No way he's drinking out of that giant thing.]

When Phantom comes back, half of the bottle contents are gone. ]

How did you even drink it that fast?

Soda chugging is a useless talent I have.

[ Anyway. He puts that bottle aside and takes out another one of the same kind, since he thinks Phantom would like that better. ]

Tip the cup over here. I'll pour you some.

I can see the profiles could have become quite crowded if they'd tried to list all of your talents.

[Hien is right, so Phantom holds the cup out obligingly.]

[ Hien pours a modest amount into Phantom's cup and tilts the bottle back to pour himself a cup too, assuming Phantom brought two of them. ]

I don't really like calling them talents, because it implies that I have innate skill. It took painstakingly long for me to learn things, so... whatever I can do, just assume it took at least ten years to polish.

[Of course Phantom did! He's only medium feral. Enough to sit here drinking strange sodas with Hien in the middle of a store, not enough to only get a cup for himself.]

Skill without practice is just genius, though. I think effort is more worth being proud of.

[Maybe not soda guzzling, but like, Hien knows what he means. Phantom takes a curious sip of the soda and blinks in surprise. Fizzy...]

[ Hien takes a sip. It's basically the same thing he just chugged several minutes ago, but soda tastes good after not having it for so long. ]

Maybe I'm just surrounded by geniuses all the time to feel that way.

It could be. You lead an unusual life.

[Well, probably none of them here are average by any standards. Including this very serious magiscientist now experimenting with soda.]

It tingles. How did you drink it so fast?

[ His very own sister was a piano prodigy, so Hien is very much used to being around geniuses ever since he was born. Mood though. ]

I'm used to drinking stuff like this. I sometimes drink it to try and not be sleepy anymore, but my sleepiness knows no bounds.

I might have to try it in lieu of coffee. The fizzing seems like it would be effective.

[Plus coffee is warm, which makes him sleepier. He has to laugh a little at that, though.]

And yet I always seem to find you in the middle of doing something. I hope you can catch up on your rest this week.
