WEEK SIX

Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.

It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.

Do they have the power to terminate the project outright?

Potentially, but that may be difficult considering the state of the world currently.

[But then they couldn't be as convincing by saying they personally tried it...!!]

Which is why they resorted to threatening us with consequences that they didn't need to prove.

[Saying "we'll do x in the future" combined with how they were kept out of the loop for about five weeks honestly makes them sound less threatening than they probably want to come off.]

Or was that a bluff as well?

[Shoot. You got a point.]

I do not believe it was just a bluff, but I cannot say for certain. They may escalate beyond what they threaten to do, or do nothing at all. Humans are unpredictable and do not make the most logical choices.

[It makes their job hard, y'know?]

Then putting it another way, do you think they have the capability to threaten us beyond what they already established last week? In terms of manpower, we haven't seen much of their personnel besides the one they sent over, but I had been wondering if the rest were sheltering elsewhere.

[Although maybe they can just laser them all from afar or something for all he knows.]

Yes. I think it is incredibly possible that they could. If not with numbers, there is always technology.

[He does remember the schematics he found last week, so that's also a fun possibility to think about!! But honestly speaking, even a single loaded gun would be enough to kill a good number of them if they were of a mind to do so, so fair enough.]

Is that because of Dr. Juniper's advancements, or something else?

While it is easy to say both, it is more likely to be due to something Dr. Juniper created or greenlit.

Does Dr. Juniper have anyone above him?

[affligere]

No, he does not. There is a board, but his word is law and with the current situation I doubt anyone would oppose him anyways.

[Considering some of the others' conversations about wanting to end this whole experiment...]

Then why would it be necessary for Camellia to seek an excuse to scrap the project...? If they're solely responsible for funding and resourcing this operation, then it shouldn't be difficult for them to silently cut off support.

[Considering human experimentation is involved and all.]

I cannot say what Dr. Juniper's reasons are - I believe he may have some interest in seeing the results, and is simply getting impatient, or he may be waiting for something else. I only have his correspondence with Lorelei to go off of for this, however, so I do not have the full picture either regarding his motivations.

[Also, people are unpredictable so who knows if they'd even be able to figure it out to begin with.]

Then can you at least confirm that no third parties are involved in this research?

[If it's just Camellia and Lorelei they have to deal with, that's... well, it's still a lot when there remain some unknowns but it's still better than needing to worry about other groups that may have a stake in this too.]

There is not, unless I would count as a third party.

[Are they? Are they not? Who knows at this rate!]

I am allowed a measure of independence, and am being allowed more in the light of recent events.
