06 - week six

WEEK SIX

Sunday starts with more aches and pains than you might be used to. Florence patched people up after Saturday’s lesson, sure, but it’s not a complete cure - not to mention it doesn’t ease the sting of betrayal. Some classmates that you thought would cooperate wound up breaking your trust in the end, and this week will be interesting with the fallout.

It’s hard to say what this week will have in store otherwise. Things are changing, and it’s not clear what this means for all of you. On the bright side, however, the creatures and places you once knew from home have suddenly disappeared, so that's less that you need to worry about. There are new areas for you to look at as well.

[ Miach has not been seen outside much since the weekend. Some might assume that this is because she feels guilty for mashing betray at the last second, but... really, she just hasn't been in the mood.

This morning however, she can be found in the common area of the dorms, sitting cross-legged on a couch as she frantically tinkers with her tablet, only occasionally pausing to push her mass of hair back. If you look over her shoulder, you'll see that there is a rudimentary diagram of a human body displayed, with various body functions described at the sides. It doesn't seem to be displaying quite right and every once in a while it glitches and displays an error in Estelline's native language, but... it's coming along.

Later you can find her by the gas station, where she is putting gasoline from the pumps into two large canisters that she then proceeds to take back to the dorms. That is probably fine and you probably don't need to worry about it. But maybe you should worry about Miach who is pausing every 20 meters because the canisters are too heavy for her noodle arms.

In the evening, Miach is at the roller rink - and without the clumsiness effect, she is having the time of her life here. She spends hours circling around, dancing in a spin-like motion until she's dizzy. ]

Are you going to carry that on your own?

[ is what flat says, after probably walking in silence next to her for like five minutes ]

[ She absolutely let him do that, too, without saying anything either. Sure, watch her struggle. That's fine. She can do this. (And anyway, Flat will be feeling the fore muscles in her arms, too.) ]

Evidently.

[ really, the thought of helping her hasn’t even crossed his mind until now.

he’ll stick a hand out for her to hand one, but he doesn’t seem to be too concerned either. ]

You’re planning something. [ a beat. ] What is it?

[ She considers this for a moment. Her pride dictates she'll carry both of them the whole way but... a glance head tells her the whole way is pretty long still.

Have a cannister, Flat. She's glad to be able to pick the other one up with both hands now. ]

They're able to send people to us through the fog by now - so there might be something we can damage that would force more of their number to come rushing in.

The downside is that setting the Camelia HQ on fire might damage equipment that would ultimately be beneficial to us. We were brought here somehow after all.

[ flat continues walking in silence, carrying the cannister close to his chest. after about a minute, he speaks up with genuine curiosity and just the slightest hint of hesitation. ]

Like a distress signal, then?

[ … ]

I wonder how she would react…

[ lorelei, that is. ]

Annoyed, I would assume. We're jeopardizing her job by demonstrating that she does not have a good handle on her test subjects.

[ Judging by the weekend, Lorelei was non-too-pleased with the review that Kyle brought back to her employer.

Which means that if they cause more and more of a ruckus they can sabotage her standing further, but... ]

She said not to trust them, but I don't trust her either.

[ Hello, fellow noodle...

Fai is actually on his way out of the gas station with a bag full of snacks in hand when he spots Miach struggling. ]

Need help with that?

[ His offer should tell her all she needs to know about whether or not he's mad about the betrayal. ]

[ At this point nobody is going to actually get mad at her, this is almost disappointing. At least Phantom is miffed though, that counts for something.

At the question, she considers for a moment. While considering, she keeps holding up the cannisters and you can see her hold gradually getting shakier, which... yeah okay. ]

... I might.

Mm, you definitely need help.

[ Don’t mind him, he’s just going to grab it from her hand. ]

Are you thinking about driving one of the cars in the mall parking lot?

[ Why else would she have so much gas… unless she wants to light something on fire. ]

[ Miach is just going to give him a long look. ]

That is an incredibly benevolent assumption.

[ That just makes him laugh. ]

I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here.

[ But if she really isn't planning on that... ]

What are you going to set on fire?

[ Do not ever give her the benefit of the doubt, it's just not worth it... ]

I'm weighing my options with Camelia HQ primarily. I am sure it would send a lot of employees running towards us, ripe for questioning, hostage-taking and the likes... but on the other hand, there might be equipment in there that could be of interest to us.

Hmmm... the equipment could prove to be important.

[ And they don't want to ruin that. ]

You could always start a contained fire nearby. If anything, it might get the attention of someone.

[ well, given her insights and unfortunate familiarity with what has been going on here, sabo's going to be interested in what she is doing. especially since it seems to be taking quite a bit of her attention. he won't be too intrusive with it and will clear his throat to let her know of his presence. ]

Can I ask what you're working on here? You seem very invested in it.

[ he can tell it's a body but?? why a body??? ]

[ It takes a second for her to even react - she has a line of thought here and she absolutely needs to input it before it vanishes, chewing on her lip as she goes. Okay, final code bracket, okay-- Hi Sabo. ]

I'm measuring my own biometric data with the assistance of the software that is installed in my own body. It's offline here, obviously, but its base functionality of keeping up with my health is still intact at least.

[ ... none of this made sense to him, did it. ]

[ not a lick. or, well, he's smart enough to catch parts of it but only because of his exposure to things here and the little he has gathered elsewhere. like he gets an idea of what she's talking about but do not ask him to continue a conversation about it at a high level. ]

Do you have a condition that needs to be measured routinely?

It would be quite nice if that was the reason.

[ And she supposes with the recent discoveries about her brain structure, there might be some inadvertent truth to it now...? Though 'need' is debatable at best. ]

No, it's preventative. If anything is wrong with my health, it allows for that to be fixed before it even becomes symptomatic. But that's not why I am trying to access it.

[ Heaven forbid Miach Mihie try to be healthy. ]

I am just considering the benefits of being able to measure my body data in case there is outside interference from our captors.

[ Luci watches her skate for a while, perched on the wall like it is a seat made for him. He is snacking on one thing or another at first. But eventually he stands, hands in front of his mouth to call out to her. ]

[ Miach still has no idea what to make of Luci and that alone is a very good reason not to disregard his greeting. ]

Good afternoon! It's a pity that these don't come in your size, isn't it?

[ Or at least she thinks they don't. She hasn't, like, checked. ]

[ Well... they probably do have them in his size, but Luci hasn't checked either. Mostly because he doesn't know how to skate. ]

Yeah, yeah. I'll make a complaint. [ Dissmissively, but followed up with more excitement-- ]

How fast can you go?

[ He does indeed look over her shoulder, and, well. That's interesting. ]

Working on something?

Mhm.

[ Give her a second, she just needs to adjust this and-- ah. Another error pop-up in Estelline language. She clicks it away and sighs. ]

Florence said they are measuring our biodata, right? I figure that if there is something worth measuring here, it might be nice to have access to that information myself. Just to see if we're being tampered with.

[ He nods. ]

Sounds like a smart idea, especially given that they've clearly already done something.

Is this something you took from their system here or something you're building from scratch?
