05 - week five

WEEK FIVE

Come Sunday morning, the portals around Estelline fade away, but not all of the oddities hanging around disappear so quickly. The recreations of your dreams and memories are still around, ever changing and shifting. Whatever it is that brought these things here hasn’t ended, not yet.

You don’t have time to worry about all of that, though, even if you know you should exercise caution once two of you found yourselves on the bad end of a monster’s claws. The course still isn’t over, though, even if the portals changed lesson plans. Everything continues on, with new places to explore as the fog pushes back once again. This week still feels a little more like what you’re familiar with, though, after Saturday’s lack of lessons.

It's not that simple. By staying the way I am now, Fai can live on through my name.

[ That question actually surprises him, as his eyes widen before he looks down at his lap. ]

I... don't know for sure.

I know my opinion doesn't matter, and it really shouldn't...

[He's not only a stranger Fai - Yuui - barely knows, but he's... Well. He's not a very good person. It'd be insane to take anything he says into consideration.]

But I think that maybe Yuui deserves to live. He survived all of that, didn't he? And there's other ways for Fai to live on that aren't just... trying to be him. Even if you think he'd be forgotten, dying like that he can still live on with you. You should get to be you.

[ Fortunately(?) for Owen, someone being a good person or not doesn't matter a whole lot to Fai... so he takes Owen's words seriously.

He closes his eyes, letting out a soft sigh. ]

I think I've started to come to terms with who I am recently, to tell you the truth. Although I'll still go by Fai, that doesn't meant that I consider myself to be him etiher.

I'm too weak, both in the sense of magic and willpower.

I think it's more like... I'm ready to live life in general.

[ Sure, he's had fun, but he hasn't really lived for himself either. ]

It's taken you over one hundred years and being dragged to another world to figure out your life was worth living for yourself?

[Well, Owen couldn’t even remember the first century of his life until recently, so… Once again, there’s some form of hypocrisy going on here.]

[Since they’re on the subject of memories, though, and Owen will always make the worst possible decisions no matter how horribly he wants to avoid the conversation…]

I had assumed that you didn't want to talk about it.

[ Because, well, it sure was a lot! ]

I'd like to know why you ended up there and how you got out, but I'd understand if you didn't tell me.

…There was a man with purple eyes. I don’t remember much else. I don’t even know if he was human or a wizard. I didn’t remember any of that at all before that.

[His face screws up.]

I still don’t even remember how everything really happened all that well - I think those men who were outside opened the door, and then after that… I don’t know.

[Which isn’t frustrating at all or anything.]

[ Well, whatever happened, it wasn’t good. That much Fai knows. ]

Does it bother you, not knowing?

[ He thinks not knowing might bring some people peace, but he isn’t sure that Owen is one of those people. ]
