05 - week five

WEEK FIVE

Come Sunday morning, the portals around Estelline fade away, but not all of the oddities hanging around disappear so quickly. The recreations of your dreams and memories are still around, ever changing and shifting. Whatever it is that brought these things here hasn’t ended, not yet.

You don’t have time to worry about all of that, though, even if you know you should exercise caution once two of you found yourselves on the bad end of a monster’s claws. The course still isn’t over, though, even if the portals changed lesson plans. Everything continues on, with new places to explore as the fog pushes back once again. This week still feels a little more like what you’re familiar with, though, after Saturday’s lack of lessons.

I've heard of the Florence AI, but I wasn't aware it had made it out of preliminary testing and was safe to stay out of the lab... A-and I know Lorelei is the one in charge here...!

An artificial intelligence... S-so it's just a computer program, but it's supposed to be able to think...? That's probably the best way to explain it...

You must understand, we've been going through a rough time. On more than one occasion our lives have been threatened in the name of an experiment we have had no choice in agreeing to. We have been left vulnerable, without abilities that can make us better able to navigate or combat the supernatural aspects of this place.

And quite frankly, two of us have nearly died last week. So, I do admit that while my actions may not have been the best, they aren't without reason.

Anyway, I'm not looking for petty revenge against someone like you. Just information.

[ Xingqiu admittedly felt a little desperate after the fact Chongyun nearly died last week. So he did throw some caution to the wind. But he has no regrets, and he thinks they do have enough information now.

...Well, you're not one of the leaders so no one really is interested in actually doing much other than asking you questions for information. Trust me when I say I know the others good enough after five weeks of this. We've been really starved for details! But, I suppose if you want to believe otherwise, that's up to you.

Oh, yeah. They've been out since at least two months ago? I saw the footage in the clothing store nearby. They looked a lot more cheerful than now, so do you happen to know if they were taken without permission?

I believe that was only a test to see how it reacts to outside stimulus, a-and I don't think Dr. Juniper would have let the project stay outside of the facility for so long without being aware of it in some way...

So Lorelei didn't create them?

No? I mean, I think Florence was kind of a group endeavor...? Or maybe she did? I'm not really sure. I'm in the regulations department!

Do you know anything about the orbs that have been appearing at night?

N-not really... Any research into them has been largely inconclusive. They seem to draw people into them, but once people are inside they d-don't come out... There's some theories over w-where they came from, but this isn't something that's happened before.

What theories are those?

W-well... Every summer there's a time where our emotions will have a stronger impact, so some people have theorized these orbs are a side effect of that due to how large the population has grown...

Like a black hole. [Which would make it more like a force of nature more than anything else, huh.]

Is it localized to this city, or is this also happening in other locations?

I'm... not sure. Communication has been difficult, especially these past few weeks in particular.

Has it been getting worse?
