3.0 - week three

WEEK THREE

Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

It is! Hien was quite the gentleman and helped me open up some of my stuff.

[ Unnecessary information, but he’s trying to provoke Hien a little so Idia can see his tsundere side. ]

[ Hien just looks at Fai. He knows what he's trying to do!! And he won't allow it!! ]

There were too many boxes in front of the room. Really uncomfortable. It got too stuffed in our room, so we're trying to get most of it out.

[See, the problem is... Fai's just 100% right?? M'lord Static is a top tier gentleman?? But, like, he still gets that maybe a bit of provocation is being attempted...]

O- Oh. If it's bothering you, then...

[... there's a big, obvious thing he can tell without looking too hard. He points to the BEAN SNIPER RIFLE.]

... I wouldn't say it's "mine" but... that's definitely one of my designs. While it is light-weight it definitely wasn't built with compact storage in mind...

[ Fai is still leaning against Hien because he’s too comfortable to move, but his expression shows off how impressed he is. ]

[ Hien doesn't seem to be bothered with Fai still leaning against him, but when he hears that Idia designed it, his eyes seem a little more alive than usual. ]

Most sniper rifles aren't meant to be compact anyway, though you can dismantle them. They're s too much to carry around, but making them lightweight really helps.

[ Though he wonders how it affects shooting with little to no recoil. Or even aim. ]

Can I give it a go before we hand it back?

[ He doesn't even seem to be implying this for payment, but he just genuinely wants to try it out. Sniper enthusiast... ]

Exactly! [the double lively eyes combo, of course M'lord Static gets him!]

If these were mass-producted for the event it would be too much but as a single prototype it can allow for a whole new range of tactical options!

And of course, M'lord Static. If- If it suits you, you could even keep it... or I'll keep it in my room to save you space and you can come over whenever you like...

[... hey technically didn't Fai get it? It's technically Fai's, right. Sorry, Fai, Idia's just an excited fanboy.]

[ It's kind of cute how much Idia fanboys over Hien... Fai can't help but smile. ]

Idia, you'll keep it in your room because it belongs to you. Hien will borrow it whenever he likes.

[ Just... reminding Idia that it isn't Hien's.

Fai glances at Hien. ]

... Yeah.

[ It works out, but the way he glances at him makes him feel like he's being challenged. ]

Thanks for that, Idia. When there's time, let's go look for good sniping spots later.

[While Idia made it, he technically made it to be traded away... he certainly wouldn't mind people he admired working with it. He wasn't nearly as possessive about it as his old video game.]

Right! Don't worry, it's entirely non-lethal!

[ Fai looks over at Hien again. So yes, that glance earlier sure was a challenge. ]

Hien will do his best not to hurt anyone with it.

[ He smiles a little. ]

I'd like to see both of your sniping skills in action, though.

[ And because he promised to bring out Hien's tsundere tendencies... Fai looks at him again. ]

I want to see how cool you look shooting it. You'll let me see your cool side, won't you?

[ Hien was about to bring up that they can use empty cans to test their sniping skills, but then Fai says that. The only change on Hien's face is a slightly frown before he stuffs Fai's face with a cushion. You're embarrassing, is what he seems to say. ]

We can use empty cans and stuff. No big deal.

[ He says as if he didn't just put a cushion to Fai's face. ]

[Ah! He was thinking how would he act if it were a more loud tsundere but the quiet type is good, too! And, amazing, because he would assume if he asked Hien to see his cool side he'd oblige... there's... a dynamic here-!!]

... We could have a competition! M'lord Static.

[ All he does when Hien stuffs a cushion in his face is laugh, taking the pillow and setting it down in his lap. Success. ]

Oooh, I'd like that! Count me in as an audience member!

[ Fai even raises his hand. ]

[ Hien seems rather pleased, despite Fai's... everything. ]

[Idia grins a big, toothy, happy teenage grin. He's happy enough to ignore the hypothetical idea of an audience that would surely make him lose his nerve.]

[He takes the bean gun and shuffles it in his arms. It's hardly proper rifle-carrying ettiquite but, well, it was also shaped like a pod of soybeans. He also spots,]

... eh? This is one of the brooms we use for flight practice...

[It did look slightly more... "magical" than the kind of brooms that would be in a university. But it is also apparently just a broom.]

[ Ah, how cute... He's gotten the impression that Idia is pretty shy just from a few of their interactions, so seeing such a grin like that feels like a rare event.

...Hien really is good with kids. Fai can't help but smile at Hien before directing that towards Idia. ]

Yup. Getting it from Fai is completely free of charge. Lucky you, Idia.

[ He doesn't sound all that put off by it anyway. ]

[Idia shuffles to hold the gun in the crook of his arm wile picking up the broom to inspect the handle.]

... ah, yeah. This one is mine. You can see the little bit that's worn down here...

[he spaces out his hands to grip the length of the broom horizontally and- yep- the slightly lighter portions line up with his hands and the distance between them]

[as for why he holds his broom like that, well, don't worry about it]

[ Fai leans forward a little so he can look at where it's worn. ]

Ah, I see it now! What do you use these for?

[ He can't imagine that it's... cleaning... ]

[ Hien wants to badly point out why Idia holds his broom like that, but. He'll just keep quiet and watch. ]

Ah. W- Well... [he mellows back down a bit, regaining some of his shyness points]

Flying is a core part of our physical education classes... Cater actually plays sports with his sometime b- but- I'm no good at that.

[Normally he would declare that sports and physical education were a worthless hobby! ... but maybe there's a different kind of Idia that exists around Hien that doesn't quite want to brag about being terrible at something.]

Oh, it's a core part of your classes? How interesting... What does it help with?

[ Sports too, huh... Fai never knew brooms could be so diverse! ]

And here I thought brooms were just for cleaning the floors and whacking people.

As long as you can fly, that should be good enough, right? You don't gotta excel at it.

[ This was Hien's mindset even when he was actually 20 years old in an actual university and it's stuck with him for so long when he had to do things he didn't feel like doing. ]

W- Well, if you can levitate your broom with magic, you can eventually use it for large carriages and such... b- but I much prefer things like magwheels!

[he bounces on his heels a bit]

A perfect combination of speed, magic, and technology!

[ That sounds neat! Much cooler in a way than flying cars! ]
