3.0 - week three

WEEK THREE
Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

As always, Florence and Lorelei are available.

SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY

TASK LIST

( OOC Note: Luci, Mutsu, and Mae will each receive a small roomba! Congrats on the successful egg drop. It's a tiny little friend that cleans extra well, though this also means its trash compartment is a little smaller so it'll need to be cleaned more often. )

(It might not be plot relevant but it sure is world relevant. It makes the world feel more real and it really drives home that whatever happened here recently is weird. Mysterious orbs, missing populations, bizarre events, and strange forces being able to kidnap people from other worlds isn't normal! Something is up here! )

Looks like whatever is going on is too new for this place.

(He snaps a couple more pictures and nods,)

Let's see what we else we can learn here.

(He kind of wishes he had Konnosuke here to help out but oh well. Paleontology and geography, let's go! First things first, how is this exhibit hall laid out? Are there any paleontology displays that might stand out at first glance? Is there anything they can immediately grasp from the geography panels? How's the first look of things when they enter?)

[ POINTS TO THE BOLD TEXT!!! however before sabo can get to that part he will be distracted with the skeletons and cross-sections of the world because wow! is he not a nerd who loves this stuff. if there wasn't a bigger mystery to figure out, he'd probably spend way more time just vibing and reading every word there was to read.

or, well, ""reading"" because even though he has been practicing learning the native language here with the aid of the tablet, he's not perfect. some descriptions escape him and the meaning can be a little weird. you know, where you understand every other word or something like that. nevertheless, those short comings don't stop sabo from immediately waving mutsu over to the plaque.
]

Mu, you better get a picture of this and check the translation for it. I think it's referencing emotions again.

[ give him a moment as he tilts his head to a side. (please be translating it faster than him trying to read this, mutsu.) ]

I think it's describing how emotions can change the environment..? [ squints. ] Or humans can. There's some mention about a time?

[ help. ]

(It's like an alternate earth or something and not One Piece land where 99% of the world is water or something nice...... IDK one piece.

He's coming over to check the displays with Sabo! Likewise, he's been trying to learn the language but he's pretty basic. He holds up his tablet and has to wiggle it around a bit to get the translation to really line up,
)

It says... Emotions can change the environment. Sometimes it even changes the land. Literally.

(I just assume some of these translations are a little awkward and need a wiggle here or there to really make sense so give him a sec,)

And... it says each year, there's a time where emotions are real strong and can have a bigger effect.

(Sabo is welcome to come over and look over Mutsu's shoulder to see for himself! But Mutsu is going to scan some more. Is there any sign that these things happen at the same time each year or is it random/not specified?)

[ everyone is trying their best here...

but sabo will definitely be peering over mutsu's shoulder and reading along with the shoddy translations. it's a shame that there isn't a specific date for them to hold onto but the fact that there's the confirmation outside of the newspaper of this event is enough to get sabo gawking for a moment.
]

Every year during the summer?

[ you know, just to put words to it. ]

If it happens every year during the summer then... [ he'll take a moment to mull what over what they saw over on the other side and guess that would explain some things? why all of the ages were named after emotions and so on and so forth. ] I guess it wouldn't be necessarily documented as some big event if it was that routine.

[ it'd be like tracking seasonal hurricanes or something like that. not that big of news. ]

I wonder what else might be written around here.

Kind of like... a typhoon season or something. It happens every year so ya don't really talk about it unless something real big happens.

(Which is what Mutsu is going to try to scan for. Follow the tablet along as he tries to check out the other descriptions. Were there any incidents out of the ordinary that stood out? )

And it looks like it wouldn't be something that any individual would be able to accomplish on their own. [ sabo will take a step back and cross his arms as he does a bit of a mental review of what they've learned so far. ] It's often the result of groups of people sharing a similar emotion that would trigger some sort of response.

[ his eyes will wander around for a moment just to see if there might be any other doors or anything similar that could lead them into a back room. you never know okay!!! that aside, he'll have a thought. ]

The Orbs—they gave those feelings of being able "fix" things. I wonder if they're trying to force some sort of purposeful change.

Yeah, you gotta have a lot of people to do a big change.

(Interesting that the last 9 centuries are so peaceful?)

I wonder how they kept so many people all nice and peaceful for so long, though. (That's such a long time! He kind of expects something to go wrong? But maybe he's just used to more violent times...) Like trying to force everyone to feel a certain way to get something in particular?

(Yeah, mod-chans, is there anything else around to poke at a glance? Extra exhibit doors, any extra funky models, etc.......)

Could be.

[ well, sabo's going to wander over towards the other side of the floor taking note of what he ends up passing by. ]

If it's known that emotions can have that big of an effect on an area and the land itself, I imagine that people would start to become cautious about how they feel for certain sized gatherings.

[ but mutsu does bring up a point? if anything, it makes him wonder how things would actually seem like if there were people here. would that all be fake happy just for the sake of peace? ]

... Sounds rough. (When he really thinks about it because--) Always havin' to keep your feelings in check 'cause ya don't wanna make trouble...

(But okay let's check the other side of the floor just to see what's over here???)

It sounds like what you could expect from a "classic" oppressive regime.

[ i have no idea how timelines work but for the sake of things, i'm gonna say that sabo found his fruit trees and sus flyer before he wandered into here with mutsu so he's going to be frowning at the "CAMELLIA". that moment you know you found something that's both inane but also important all at once.

(to answer the matter of emotions, though? depends on which emotions we are talking about here.)

though before we get there, sabo will take a brief moment to glance at the newspapers to see if anything sticks out about them...you know anything Orb related and the like. but, yeah, when he gets to that corner of the museum, he sure is going to see what that's all about.
]

"A Vision of the Future", huh?

Even if ya keep the people down, ya usually can't control how they feel, though.

(But in a situation like this, the whole point would be to keep emotions down.

He reads over the information they can get from the displays. Ah, that piece about if you should embrace or repress your emotions really sticks to him. It's not like he hasn't had to think about this in one way or another since he was summoned but he'll file that away for now. It might be something they'll have to talk about later.

He follows Sabo over to the last exhibit.
)

Makes sense. When ya got people that're always being held back in the moment, there's always gonna be people who wanna imagine the future.

(But what's up with this exhibit!!)

[ BRUH.

okay, sabo is going to pull out the flyer from his coat pocket and unfold it for mutsu to see. the camellia and then the emphasis of having one's life "under control" really not sitting well with him. how deep does this propaganda take them? is this like 1984 level of nonsense? (sabo does not know what 1984 is but i, naru, do.)
]

I think it's safe to have suspicion about how things have managed to stay peaceful for so long, and to believe that they must have a way to control the way people think.

[ he's going to be advancing deeper into the exhibit. ]

...and if this is how they imagine the future to be, then I'm not sure if I stand by it.

(VERY UNCOMFORTABLE........

He looks down at the flyer and there's this initial moment of surprise! And he frowns,
)

So something like this is going on...? (He was just wondering but it kind of sucks to maybe be right,) Can't say I agree either.

But the question now is... how d'ya really control how a bunch of people feel? That ain't natural...

(A GLANCE AT THE EXHIBIT TO SEE IF... there are many any signs in the video? Images? Orbs.....)

[ looks at their canons and does not perceive anything beyond it, but given how the new week has started and that there's a need to get Things Up for town hall, is there anything that they should make note of it? last tid-bits or are they done? ]

I'm sure we'll find out, Mu.

[ sabo will not destroy the propaganda but he will not approve of it. ]

We'll definitely need to tell the others about what we've found, or at least, let them know about what could be lurking.
