3.0 - week three

WEEK THREE

Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

If it's about sculptures... you know those kinds where it looks like there's a translucent sheet and you reach out to touch it, but it's just a part of the rock? It looks so soft... but it's a rock. The disorienting feeling when you touch it is really nice, but a little confusing.

[ It's so cool to Hien. The level of skill is so high that he can't help but be marveled by it. ]

Ah, I do! It takes a lot of skill, doesn't it? I really admire anyone who is so dedicated to something that they can achieve something so difficult.

Marble sculpting is not among the things I know how to do correctly, so I can respect that. The amount of mistakes I'd make... is something I don't wanna think about.

[ Anyway. ]

If it's painting, I like the ones whose eyes seem to follow you.

[ Finally, something Hien can't do! But it's not like Fai can do it either. ]

You like creepy things like that?

[ Hmm... he thinks that suits Hien, honestly. ]

... I don't find it creepy.

[ Yeah. ]

It just makes it look like the painting has life and I think it's pretty cool. I like... unexpected things.

Because you've lived for so long, right? You want things that take you by surprise.

[ That's his guess... it makes sense to Fai, at least. ]

Hm... yeah.

[ He nods too. ]

I like being surprised... in a good way.

[ Hien leads Fai to the third floor. It feels nice having Fai hug his arm like this... ]

Surprised in a good way, huh...

[ Should Fai make him something to eat one day? Hien could use some nice surprises in his life right now. ]

[ Fai looks at the displays on the third floor with interest, taking in whatever he can. ]

[ He looks over at the giant dinosaur skeletons, and points to the t-rex one. ]

If I can go inside its mouth, take a picture for me.

...Try not to break anything.

[ Not that it matters outside of no longer having a cool dino skeleton to look at.

But he detaches himself from Hien so he can go do that. ]

[ Hien actually looks surprised. ]

You're letting me?

You're a grown man. It's your choice.

[ He laughs a little. ]

Did you say that with the intention of having me reject you?

Yeah.

[ No hesitation. He has no shame about this. ]

[ He stares at Hien for a long moment. ]

Any reason why…? Or do you like it when I assert dominance over you?

No—this is why you're not fun to tease.

[ Hmph!!! He walks forward and stops at a pterodactyl display. ]

[partymagician]

[ That just makes Fai laugh. Honestly, Hien has a point.

He latches onto his arm again. ]

Do you like these things?

[ He’s got no clue what they are, and he isn’t about to get out his tablet to translate the display either. ]

I don't really have much of an opinion other than they look cool.

[ But even then, he sounds subdued. ]

Riding on one would be fun though, like a dragon.

It seems like it.

[ Their backs look wide enough to comfortably sit on.

Fai tilts his head. Despite Hien’s lack of any enthusiasm overall, Fai can still tell something is off. ]

Everything alright?

[ Hien sighs. ]

I was looking forward to seeing more of Estelline's history in a museum, but there's close to nothing.

[ Everything else is pretty much what he's used to, so there's really nothing fun about museums for him, but he didn't want to ruin the experience for Fai, who probably hasn't seen any of it. ]

Ah, so you’re disappointed.

[ Hmm. ]

I suppose most of this is rather generic from a world traveler’s perspective. They probably have the more exciting stuff hidden from view.

[selfconcept]

It would be fun if we suddenly found a secret door, huh?

[ At least Hien would think so. ]

[partymagician]

Yeah. We’d get to sneak around like spies.

[ He grins. Fai would honestly take it seriously, but the idea is fun to entertain. ]

Another day, I guess.

[ He looks up at the suspended skeleton for a while before looking at Fai. ]

Anything else you wanna see? Don't let me hold you back.

I saw a little gift shop, so let’s go there.

[ He didn’t have too much he wanted to see in natural history, so he’s fine.

Fai detaches himself from Hien and grabs onto his hand instead. ]

Let’s go!

[ When Fai takes his hand, Hien holds his hand firmly. Now that he thinks about it, this is kinda like a date, isn't it?

I wonder what will be in the gift shop...
