3.0 - week three

WEEK THREE

Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

[With Fai starting to work, Idia will come a bit closer. He doesn't get close enough to get in the way, but he's about at a Normal Human Distance now.]

[he just checked the profiles and now he's checking them again. It does say cafes- but not sweet- so maybe a coffee that's more mellow would do it? Ah, but the thought of bitter, bitter coffee is so gross... if Cater doesn't like it he'd either need to pour a cup of sugar in or throw it out...]

I- I can ask him to try it?

[ He turns on the stove, letting the pan heat up before he starts cracking eggs. ]

There's no harm in that! I'll even keep it on the lighter side so that it's not too sweet yet not bitter either.

[ Hmm... ]

You know, Hien likes the hazelnut creamer in his coffee, so why don't I put that in?

[Idia nods, a neutral option, not likely to get him the +3 but also not the -3...]

[And he perks up a little at the next suggestion. Well, then, if Cater didn't like it, then, h- he'd get an advantage on things Hien liked.]

... y- yeah. [nod, nod]

... that's right, you're M'lord S- ... H- Hien's partner, aren't you...

[ But he definitely caught what sounded like the start of a nickname... ]

Do you know him well?

Eh, um...

[Well, certainly, in terms of aesthetic design they're a good match. dark-hair-blond-hair was a classic combination, wasn't it?...]

... k- kind of. He's been looking... out for me? I- I guess...

[... eh~ it feels childish to say but that's really the sum of it, isn't it...]

Really? I'm glad to hear that!

[ Fai doesn't seem to think it's childish, at least! Honestly, it's cute. ]

I knew he was looking out for some of the people here. He's just been too shy to admit it to me.

[Checking versus his mental image of Hien... checking...]

W- Well, M- ... Hien is cool, so it's probably more something like...

"Ah, I didn't need to brag about it," or something like that!

[ That makes him laugh as he starts adding spices and seasoning to the eggs. ]

Oh, not at all! It's more like... "Hmph, why would I tell you? Stupid."

[ He's clearly amused, even as he imitates Hien. ]

[Despite it being different from his view, he's at least listening and thinking about it,]

Eh, the M'lord Hien I know has never called me stupid... e- even when I've definitely said some stupid things!

[also, the nicknames have fused]

[ The nickname fusion... Fai does his best not to laugh. ]

He calls me that whenever he gets all huffy. It's pretty cute.

[ He gets out some bread and pops two slices into the toaster as he goes back to tending to the eggs. ]

Huffy... [he's putting it together now,]

A- Are you saying that... wh- when faced with an excessively cheery character, M'lord Hien becomes a- a- a tsundere?!

[ He holds back a laugh. Sorry not sorry for ruining your image, Hien. ]

That’s right!

[ Fai feels lucky he knows that word. ]

It’s one of the most endearing things about him, if you ask me.

[a tsundere...]

[Idia turns to the side and starts chewing on his nail while pondering this new development. While not every word is audible, there's enough to get bits and pieces.]

[the key phrases seem to be "want to see it" but "impossible"]

... maybe if I get a drone camera...

You want to see him act like that?

[ There’s an amused look in his eyes. ]

Pay attention to him next time we all have a meeting.

[ Fai will try to provoke him. ]

[There's a little "eep" like he sincerely considered that Fai might just have ignored his obvious aside.]

[there's a moment of fret fret fret but utlimately]

[yeah absolutely he wants to see it!]

[he bows his head politely]

Yes, I'll be in your care.

[Please show him the tsundere self.]

[ Fai laughs softly. ]

I'll do my best to bring that side of his out.

[ The toast is done, so Fai goes to set it on a plate before brewing some more coffee. ]

Would you like some coffee too? I'll also make it just the way Hien likes for you.

[ It seems like Idia really looks up to Hien, so he might as well. ]

[On one hand, asking more from someone who was already pretty much making his partner breakfast and promising to show him his idol's tsundere side...]

... um. Y- Yes, please.

[It didn't hurt to try it!]

[ Fai doesn't mind at all as he smiles and gets out two mugs, along with the hazelnut syrup.

The eggs are done too, so he turns off the stove and gets them onto the plate. The coffee finishes just as he gets that all together, so Fai pours Idia a mug first. ]

He likes his coffee mostly plain, except for some of this syrup.

[ Fai pours in what he's figured out is the perfect amount of hazelnut syrup. He mixes it with a spoon before handing the mug over to Idia. ]

For you.

[Idia takes it, holding both the handle and the other side of the mug gingerly with his fingertips.]

[he take a little sip and,]

H-Hot... [Buddy, you could have just waited a bit. Maybe stirred it more. Bud.]

[ Fai bites back a laugh. How cute... ]

Be careful, there. I should have warned you that it's still pretty hot. Try blowing on it a bit before taking another sip.

[His lips take on a slightly purple tinge where they touched the too-hot liquid. Sorry, Cater, sorry.]

... R- Right...

[holding it a little higher so he can blow on it]

[... then a little sip.]

So... how is it?

[ Now that it isn't burning his tongue?

Fai gets the other cup of coffee ready. ]

[He bites at his lower lip, thinking of how to put. He's also having the relevation of associating hazelnut with nutella for most of his life without actually acknolwedging it's hazelnut. You mean there's nut in this nutella?]

... it's still a bit bitter...

[he shifts]

... but, um, I like the creamer.

It's a nice flavor, isn't it?

[ He's used it in his own coffee a few times, in fact. ]

I think Hien likes that it's kind of bitter... Honestly, I could never drink coffee that wasn't sweet.

Right? [he agrees to the sweetness comment!]

... but I guess people who like bitter things... they get a kind of... mystique to them...
