WEEK THREE

Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

I was thinking of dragons as well.

[ He looks up at one of the bigger dinosaurs. ]

I'm sure dragons in some worlds were really these guys.

Never really thought much about other worlds but... yeah, I'm sure.

(He nods,)

There's still a lot about my own I still don't know, though. I wanna know if we had these creatures before.

Can you access historical information? It might be fun to look for it.

[ He knows Syaoran would get a real kick out of looking all that stuff up... ]

Ah, we deal with history stuff all the time!

(Because...... they're time travelers.)

But you could say we're pretty focused. Dinosaurs and dragons've never been a problem in Japan.

(Someone tell him about Godzilla.)

Oooh, how impressive! What else do you focus on? Or is it just anything similar to dinosaurs and dragons?

Mostly Japanese history. We get a li'l bit of information about what's going on outside sometimes but most of the time, it isn't too important.

(He waves his hand in the air a bit,)

It's too bad 'cause that's kind of my specialty!

A history guy, huh? You're so cool~

[ He really admires people who are really good at navigating historical things. Fai has always been so invested in magic that he never tried. ]

Ah, it ain't that impressive.

(Don't embarrass him, Fai.)

's not like I'm well read or anything. 'm just old.

[ He's so cute... Fai wants to keep complimenting him, but he won't take it too far. ]

Still, being old doesn't always mean you've kept up with history. A lot of wizards get caught up in their own studies and don't pay much attention to what goes on around them, for example.

Hah! Keepin' up's my specialty!

(He holds his head up high! He's very proud about this particular fact,)

Ya gotta point. A lot of old guys are pretty happy stickin' to what they know but it's kind of a shame, don't ya think? It's nice to have what ya like but there's so much more goin' on outside... I'd hate missing it all.

It is a shame.

[ He smiles a little. ]

To tell you the truth, I’d been kind of like that for a while until I started traveling. It’s been nice going out.

[ He had Reasons, but still. ]

Right! I used to be the same way.

(How interesting to have something in common like that with someoen else here, though.)

I used to just stay home all the time but then my master took me out for a bit of a run. (For a matter of speaking........) Haven't been able to settle since! I just wanna keep going!

[ He laughs. ]

You got a taste of the world and want more, is that right?

[ Fai has to keep going for reasons he doesn’t want to bring up, so he gets that too. ]

Yeah! I mean... I'm from a pretty small island in a bunch of islands!

(Shikoku is the smallest of the main islands after Okinawa and definitely one of the most rural ones and least exciting ones.)

I got to see the sea and the main island! And I heard whole lot about all the countries outside Japan... I wanna see 'em for myself some day.

I hope you get to. Maybe you can catch a boat one day and travel around the whole world.

[ If that's easy enough for him. He knows boats aren't always luxurious in worlds with less technology. ]

That's the plan! I'll catch a steam boat and see the world.

But I heard in modern times, people use aeroplanes to fly in the sky like birds.

They do! They also use these big metal boxes called "cars"!

[ Fai's excited to talk about them... ]

In one world I visited, we had flying cars.

Horseless carriages!

(Which is his way of saying he understands what Fai is saying.)

But I've never seen a flying one!? What was it like?

It was a lot of fun! You get to loop around like this— [ He moves his hands in a loop-de-loop. ] And you can fly straight up!

I wonder if Souji-san can do something like that.

(Mr. Souji. Souji-san. However the translation works ok. But can Roombas do loop de loops.)

[ He doesn't remember anyone like that on the profiles!! ]

Souji-san! He's a li'l machine with wheels and he cleans! Like a cleaning turtle!

[ He loves them. Fai thinks Mutsu is absolutely adorable. ]

I'll introduce ya when we get back to our rooms. I bet he'll be all rested up by the time we get back!
