05 - week five

WEEK FIVE

Come Sunday morning, the portals around Estelline fade away, but not all of the oddities hanging around disappear so quickly. The recreations of your dreams and memories are still around, ever changing and shifting. Whatever it is that brought these things here hasn’t ended, not yet.

You don’t have time to worry about all of that, though, even if you know you should exercise caution once two of you found yourselves on the bad end of a monster’s claws. The course still isn’t over, though, even if the portals changed lesson plans. Everything continues on, with new places to explore as the fog pushes back once again. This week still feels a little more like what you’re familiar with, though, after Saturday’s lack of lessons.

[Naturally, he'll just go for the bread because he doesn't care for sweets, but he will pause in front of the spread and tilt his head at Fai.]

...What brought this on?

Well, I wanted something to occupy myself with yesterday.

[ He was exhausted Sunday, especially after the whole Kyle thing… Then he was bored on Monday and his thoughts were too loud. ]

I thought everyone could use a treat, so I decided baking was the best option.

[undertakings]

[There's a lot of other ways someone could occupy their time with, and cooking for everyone strikes him as something a busybody would do, which reminds him of someone just a bit.

So, as he slices that baguette, a question idly slips from his mouth.]

Do people call you Mom often?

[partymagician]

I would call myself Mom when I travelled with my companions. Fai-mommy, to be precise.

[ So he’s affixed the label to himself more than anything. ]

Although, I have reminded others of their moms before.

[ Shizuku, for example. ]

[...unexpected... although at least Fai doesn't seem like the nagging type(??) so that's a point in his favor, probably!?

Either way, it wasn't entirely a serious question to begin with, so The More You Know ミ✩.]

...Sounds like a difficult job.

[partymagician]

[ He just laughs. ]

I don't think so. I like taking care of other people, so it's a job I don't mind.

[ While he wouldn't say it comes naturally to him, it is easy for him. ]

[There's a quiet hum of consideration in response as he puts down the knife as he finishes cutting the baguette and abruptly leaves. The chunk of bread is still there though, so that's something... and sure enough, he does wander back at some point with one of those plastic trays from the cafeteria and plops it down on the table. On it are two mugs of coffee (one of which he takes) along with a box of sugar cubes and some creamer. He doesn't say anything as he sips the coffee, but the side of the tray with the second mug and the rest of the stuff is facing Fai, so.]

[ Fai isn't bothered when Shin abruptly leaves since he's used to it (Hien is his partner, after all), but he's pleasantly surprised when he comes back. ]

Oh, coffee!

[ He leans forward to pour some creamer into that second mug without a second thought, adding a couple of sugar cubes and stirring. ]

Thanks. I was just thinking about how I'd like some coffee.

[undertakings]

[There's a slight shrug as he puts the mug down, reaching out for the slice of bread he cut earlier.]

I was already getting some for myself. Plain bread's too dry on its own.

[And it's not like pouring an extra cup of coffee takes much time, compared to baking all of this stuff.]

[partymagician]

It is.

[ But it goes nicely with the coffee. ]

What kind of food do you like? Do you have a favorite?

[undertakings]

Not really... I'll eat whatever happens to be available. [A slight pause.] As long as it's not the synthetic food they used to give us, it's fine.

[He'll eat sweets if he has to too, even if it's not his preference.]

[partymagician]

Synthetic food...?

[ His thoughts immediately go to something like rubber. ]

[undertakings]

Yes. It was intended to provide only the necessary nutrients needed for survival, so there wasn't any consideration for the taste or appearance... It was like eating a block of plastic explosives.

[At some point, his expression twists to something like vague disgust as he speaks. But hey, Fai's guess wasn't far off...?!]

[partymagician]

...That sounds unpleasant.

[ And miserable. He doesn't want to think about having to eat something like that on a regular basis. It's too depressing. ]

Are homecooked meals uncommon in your world?
