WEEK FIVE

Come Sunday morning, the portals around Estelline fade away, but not all of the oddities hanging around disappear so quickly. The recreations of your dreams and memories are still around, ever changing and shifting. Whatever it is that brought these things here hasn’t ended, not yet.

You don’t have time to worry about all of that, though, even if you know you should exercise caution once two of you found yourselves on the bad end of a monster’s claws. The course still isn’t over, though, even if the portals changed lesson plans. Everything continues on, with new places to explore as the fog pushes back once again. This week still feels a little more like what you’re familiar with, though, after Saturday’s lack of lessons.

[ Julius will add to the show and tell pile, mainly the nurse's ID card and the toolbox with all the electronic repair equipment inside, in case anyone wants to go wild with them.

There's also a cat hanging around him, watching everyone as they talk. He's a necessary contributor to this, okay. ]

I took a look around part of the medical wing of the Camellia Facility after we got in after the incident last week. It seems like they do a lot of work with implanting some kind of suppressor chips, though the patient records aren't exactly the most thorough in explaining what they're monitoring. One of the recipients of these chips was apparently Lorelei, a few months before we all arrived here. Whatever results they were looking for was proving to be inconclusive, so they made a note about continuing to monitor her after the fact.

[ He adjusts his glasses. ]

There were also some things about limb and organ augmenting and replacements, but it's not any kind of technology that I'm familiar with to make any kind of conclusions. From some correspondence, it seems like the focus is more on the chips than it is the augments.

[imitationsoul]

[ The moment the suppressor chip is mentioned, Miach gets up and starts pacing the room instead of remaining the quiet listener she had been this far. ]

... do you have any other names for chip recipients?

There were others listed, but none that were recognizable.

[ A pause, more pacing... ]

Well. I doubt they'll send us another grunt any time soon, so it won't matter.

Was there any talk of visual virtual reality augmentation?

Someone not as unarmed, at the very least.

[ sighs ]

There wasn't anything beyond recovering lost limbs and organ replacement, at least on the records that I saw.

Maybe I can get my WatchMe to interface with my tablet instead...

[ She certainly hadn't wanted it to come online this whole time, but the more talk about human augmentation there is, there more she feels she could make use of it... ]

Is it a good idea to let it connect to their network?

[ He's legitimately asking. They're all basically pretty well tracked, but giving that much leeway doesn't sound like a great idea, at least from what little he knows about it. ]

[ Miach considers it for a moment. She is thinking out loud here and the question has a lot of merit. ]

Not much they could do to me with it is worse than the invasions we are already enduring by possibly supernatural means.

[ MEMORY SHARE WAS A LOT, MAN... ]

I don't think they know how to operate it though. Which, of course, goes both ways. If I can get it to interface with their system, it'd be a learning curve until I could do anything of use...

I never thought the day would come where I'd find WatchMe coming in handy, but if they influence our bodies in any way I might be able to trace that with it, too.

[ human augmentation... wow i can't believe this is something sabo knows about but it's not like it makes the situation any more palatable.

Given the way things are trending and what we're learning about this place, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that they were trying to find a way to suppress people's emotions. [ also could explain why lorelei is always Pleasant? ] Especially with out powerful emotions can have on the environment.

[ Rollo'll definitely take his sweet time sniffing Sabo, but he's absolutely down for pets. He'll actually be recognizable from the memory share, but he was a newborn at that point. ]

That was my initial thought. It does raise the question of why they haven't tried anything similar with us, unless we're supposed to act as a control group of some kind.

[ Not that. That's a suggestion. Absolutely the fuck not. ]

[ BABY!!!!! sabo is here to pet cats. he likes animals especially if they do not want to eat or harm him. have a few ear scritches. ]

Perhaps it's because they're testing something different on us since we haven't been shown to be able to effect the environment in the ways that they're hoping to control.

[ we are pointedly ignoring the dreamscape for this exact moment in time. ]

Given that we share pain and emotions with whoever we're marked with, it could be as simple as that. They're testing to see whether the awareness of emotions may influence the way we act as another means of control.

[ Sabo gets a 'naaaa' for his troubles as Rollo leans into his hand. He has been chosen. ]

Maybe. I question whether they know what they're doing, given the last few weeks.

[ WEEPS AT THE EMOTE IN THE METATEXT.

sabo will just continue to pet rollo. he does not have treats for the baby but he will supply all of the pets until rollo is done with pets. ]

Could it be that we're just an unexpectedly difficult population of test subjects? [ laughs. ] It's not like we have accepted Lorelei's words as truth or have blindly followed what we're told.

[mirrite]

[Marcus is silent for a moment, debating, before he reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a small storage container labeled "SUPPRESSORS," holding it up for Julius to see.]

Suppressor chips like these, you mean?

[superstructure]

[ ... well, that was easy. ]

Where did you find those?

[mirrite]

A storage closet in the Camellia Facility. Looks like we both had the same idea about taking a look around while we were there.

[ just laughs quietly at that last part. ]

So you didn't see any examples of this technology, correct? Just related correspondence?

[superstructure]

[ yeah... yeah. ]

Not aside from what Marcus found. [ nods to the chips ] Everything else was in messages or inventory lists.

You didn't copy them down or anything, did you?

[ I was gonna say no and then I remembered the tablets have a camera function, so he'll just slide his tablet over to Rideaux with the very dad-esque pictures of computer monitors with the info. ]
