04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[ Hien can't even say it's not his power at this point, but he's fine with being teleported somewhere else. ]

[Look at your scrungy mage. Now back to the scenery. It's a remote mountaintop because he's a melodramatic twerp, although in the distance there's a view of a city, and a castle that might be the one they were just in.]

Mount Rucks. If it's a fight you want, wouldn't you agree this is much more convenient?

The view is nice. I'll give you that.

[ Hien seems distracted, because he's gotta enjoy the view before he fights. ]

If you need space as a magic-user, I guess you're more of a "blow everything up in a wide range" sort of guy?

I hope you don't assume that means I lack finesse. I certainly have a few smaller artes.

He raises a hand and flings a few spears of ice in demonstration, to the side of Hien. Just getting his attention first, he's not trying to skewer the guy he wants to teach him.]

[ This is a memory, so pain sharing doesn't apply here. He really wants to bully Phantom, so Hien moves right into the ice spears and gets skewered. ]

Ow...

[ But despite getting skewered, he yanks them out and tosses them off the cliff. Regeneration works very nicely. ]

Is that it? The finesse is alright, but the power is lacking.

[This is, possibly surprisingly, a good way to bully Phantom. He falls back a step in shock before he processes that Hien is healing that right up.

Well then.]

I can see I won't have to hold back. So much the better.

[If he wants to sit around, Phantom will happily show him some nice fire AOEs!]

[ Hien just stands there and tanks it. The fire might be big enough to obscure Hien's location, but when the fire eventually dies out, Hien is seen wearing a different set of clothes. It's the same t-shirt and pants, but just colored different.

At least he didn't scream. ]

Nice show of fire. I don't like getting clothing damage though.

[When Phantom wakes up with these vague memories he will have so many more questions. But current Phantom is also increasingly alarmed, one hand held up a little cautiously now. Prepared to cast or maybe just to teleport again.]

What are you? That isn't mirristry.

No, he just wants to mess with Phantom lol ]

Is it my turn to be on the offense now...?

Try me, then. But don't expect me to hold back on retaliation.

[Actually he's just already making little portals, like a weenie. He fully plans to just zip around between them until he sees an opening, this will end very quickly if Hien decks him.]

[ Hien starts running at Phantom, pushes him until he's at the cliff and grabs him like a sack of potatoes. Yeah, he jumped off the mountain cliff with Phantom in tow.

When it looks like they're about to go splat on a lower part of the mountain, Hien just lands and springs up again for a very, very high jump.

Extreme parkour!!! ]

WHAT THE HELL

Phantom yelps, dignity and posturing abandoned. He wants off this ride now, please and thanks.]

Are you trying to kill us both?!

[He can't cast like this??]

Well, I don't die. Dunno about you though...

[ He laughs a little. ]

I'm kidding. I won't drop you. Isn't this fun? It's a little like flying.

I've never had the least desire to fly! What are you trying to accomplish?!

[He's just going to grab hold of whatever he can. He can't even counterattack like this, because he's not getting himself killed for that, thanks.]

[ He can hold... Hien? He's really carrying him like a sack of potatoes. ]

Just look ahead. The view is nice, isn't it?

[ As much as you'd enjoy a nice view on a roller coaster before you experience a drop. ]

[Alright, well, assume Phantom has a double fistful of Hien's shirt as he's fighting for his life in this experience.]

What's Aegis? Sounds like fun.

[ Is Phantom feeling bullied yet. ]

[Wait, what if this monster really is unkillable and carries them through the Aegis. Phantom starts wriggling in earnest, impending death or not. He's feeling so bullied that by all rights Marcus should have shown up by now, if not Phil.

Retroactively this is karma for poor Kyle]

[ He's... not lying, but this is definitely a different kind of void.

But Hien decides he's had enough of bullying Phantom for now and just drops to the ground, all the way down... he lands gently. ]

You're cute. Sorry, but if you can't handle this, you can't handle my teachings.

[Phantom is so done. As soon as his head stops spinning, he's teleporting at least out of reach. Just... give him a minute.]

...Fine. I was prepared to solve this myself from the beginning.

[Maybe he's slightly more pressingly worried about the eldritch being that's wandered into his world now, anyway.]

Did you have other mischief to achieve here, or are you quite done?

Oh, what were you mad about? With the person who looked like you.

[ Let him know... give him the deets.

Or he will threaten Phantom with a fun time. ]

[Phantom gives him a little glare, hand half-lifted to teleport hop again if Hien moves.]

Surely you heard enough to know already. I disagree with his methods.

Why?

[ He's genuinely curious. ]

Is it because it's disgracing the dead? Something about your morals?

Because I think it's pathetic for him live in misery just to punish himself for his guilt over something that happened twenty years ago.

[That prodding gets a reflexive answer, if only because he's a little offended by the "disgracing the dead" suggestion.]

But if you see it in another perspective, some people hold grudges for that long. Would you see those people as pathetic too?
