04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[Wait, what if this monster really is unkillable and carries them through the Aegis. Phantom starts wriggling in earnest, impending death or not. He's feeling so bullied that by all rights Marcus should have shown up by now, if not Phil.

Retroactively this is karma for poor Kyle]

[ He's... not lying, but this is definitely a different kind of void.

But Hien decides he's had enough of bullying Phantom for now and just drops to the ground, all the way down... he lands gently. ]

[Phantom is so done. As soon as his head stops spinning, he's teleporting at least out of reach. Just... give him a minute.]

...Fine. I was prepared to solve this myself from the beginning.

[Maybe he's slightly more pressingly worried about the eldritch being that's wandered into his world now, anyway.]

[Phantom gives him a little glare, hand half-lifted to teleport hop again if Hien moves.]

Surely you heard enough to know already. I disagree with his methods.

Why?

[ He's genuinely curious. ]

Is it because it's disgracing the dead? Something about your morals?

Because I think it's pathetic for him live in misery just to punish himself for his guilt over something that happened twenty years ago.

[That prodding gets a reflexive answer, if only because he's a little offended by the "disgracing the dead" suggestion.]

But if you see it in another perspective, some people hold grudges for that long. Would you see those people as pathetic too?

Unlikely. At least a person with a grudge is honest with themselves.

[Phantom pauses a moment.]

...He's spent his whole life wanting to be loved in return by the people he loves. This world is a broken construction of lies as it is. At least I can build one where he could be happy, however briefly.

It sounds a little like that dilemma of "is it better to having tasted freedom, but jailed" or just having been always jailed. Is it good to give someone hope, only to take it away?

He doesn't have very long. It would be enough. ...And I know his heart. He's just too afraid to be honest with himself.

[Hien gets a slightly indignant look for that assessment.]

Perhaps I'm just tired of constantly feeling miserable and alone because he does. It's all self-interest in the end, on all sides.

Yeah, that's what I say too, but it's the end results that matter too.

[ Hien is in the same boat... ]

Slap him next time and tell him to get his shit together.

[Phantom makes a little choked noise at that that was probably almost a laugh. Maybe he's not agreeing with this weird capricious parkour menace. But still.]

I doubt it would work. I may try it.

Good. Sometimes all people need is a good slap on the face and they'll come back to their senses.

[ Either that or you piss them off and they double down. Hien won't say that though. ]

[No more danger parkour pls... Phantom eyes Hien warily, but finally gives that a little smirk-smile.]

Perhaps. I suppose I'll leave a place for you in whatever world I make after this.

[Because he totally could prevent Hien popping in if he wanted! Definitely.]
