04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[Yeah, she doesn't remember him - which makes sense, because this is a memory of before she met him and before Owen got eaten(??), but the timeline is already so confusing.]

Is there a reason you're so obsessed with my face?

[It's only because she doesn't want to get kicked out of Shylock's good graces that she's letting this happen.]

[ Is that the reason why? Maybe. Also because he can just do this without Riku getting hurt. ]

[The bartender looks very amused, but there's also definitely the vibes of "if you're going to murder each other take it outside".]

[ He looks at the bartender. ]

Can I have a glass of water please?

It’s an insult.

[Hien’ll get a glass of water, though, and Owen will get another glass herself. Whatever she’s drinking is… steaming? Smoking? It absolutely does not look safe to drink.]

How would you feel if someone you barely know started calling you cute out of nowhere?

[She’s pretty sure they’ve never met but she can’t exactly trust her memories.]

[ He's lying, but. This is fun. He drinks a bit of the water. ]

[A very, very long stare.]

Hmm. You're not bad, I guess.

Yeah? Are you saying you wanna hook up?

[ Just calmly drinking his water. ]

[She's just going to stare at him even more intensely, as if that will provide the answers she seeks. How serious is this guy? What is his deal? Does he actually want something from her or is he just fucking around and waiting to find out?]

[ Unfortunate for Owen, Hien is 0% serious and 100% messing around. ]

What? Cat got your tongue?

I think a cat would make for more interesting conversation.

[Why is she unable to drink in peace... Ah, well. He's more interesting than anyone else in the bar.]

Would you like to see what it's like as a cat?

Sure. Show me.

[ He's not saying no. ]

[Transformation magic isn't going to cause much destruction, so the bartender just watches in amusement as Owen casts her spell. Assuming it'll effect Hien, he'll go from being himself to a fluffy, black cat. He gets to keep the checkerboard eyes and distortion, though, so he's still very much himself.

He just gets to be a cat instead of a dog.]

[ A one of a kind checkerboard-eyed black cat... Hien looks at Owen. ]

Make me a smaller cat.

Demanding, aren't you? I think you look pretty cute like this.

[Why should she listen to you this time, huh?]

Maybe if you ask nicely.

[ Hien stands on his hind legs to shove his front paws on Owen's face. ]

Make me, princess.

You're a very rude cat, you know?

[He gets a scritch under his chin for his troubles.

And then he's much smaller. He is now a sweet, black... kitten.]

[ Oh wow that actually feels nice... He purrs a little, but then shakes. His next course of action is to jump onto Owen's head. His now. ]

[She sighs, letting him sit there for a moment as she drains the last of her drink before dropping money onto the bar counter.]

I'm leaving, Shylock. Don't you dare say a word of this to that lunatic.

[And then she's reaching up to dislodge Hien, so she can hold him to her chest as she exits the bar. Walking with a cat balanced on her head does not sound like a pleasant time.]

Be a good boy and don't scratch me, okay?

[ Hien is a behaved kitty. But like.

...

He won't ever say it, so he'll just relax and enjoy the cushiony ride. ]

[This is the most tolerable he's been for their conversation... This might be the weirdest part of the memory once they're out of this.

The city Hien and Owen are in seems to be in the middle of several construction projects at once, all of which seem to be industrial - as if the bar they just left is about to be swallowed up by progress.]

How do you feel about the sea?

[Though she's already heading off, through what seems to currently be some sort of arts and entertainment district, heading towards the coast.]
