3.0 - week three

WEEK THREE

Last night might have been exhausting for any number of reasons - maybe it was the emotional

toll of dealing with those ghosts, or maybe you stayed up too late after watching Jim Shrok. Who knows, but Saturday is over, even if some of you haven’t quite left it behind and half spirits that are still hanging on, tethered to you and weighing you down…

But that’s not going to stop a new week from starting. There’s no breaks in an eight week course.

There’s very little fanfare to the start of your third week of the course, though it does seem like the fog has lifted even more. It’s a bit more of a trek down the abandoned streets of Estelline, but surely a mile is walkable? Or you could grab a bike or try to hotwire one of those cars in the mall parking lot… Whatever you plan to do this week is up to you. All you know is you've got some new locations to explore.

...All right.

[Out of the clothing store they go then?! Mile-long walks or longer aren't something he's unused to either and while he's used to taking them alone with silence as his only company, at some point he'll speak up.]

Is there anything you've been looking for?

[partymagician]

[ Fai is more than content to walk in silence, but he doesn't mind when Shin speaks up either. ]

Similar to your scarf? [ He hums in thought. ] I don't think so... I've just about given up everything that I had.

[undertakings]

[That elicits a glance, but he directs his attention back to the path in front of them.]

...Something I left behind turned up here last week. But if there isn't anything like that for you, then it's fine.

[Because in some ways, it's worse to have them end up here.]

[partymagician]

I have a few things, but I gave just about all of it to a witch. I'd be shocked if it did turn up.

[ And a little bit worried, because what happened to that witch? ]

[undertakings]

I don't know if they would go that far, but...

[He doesn't know why they brought some of this stuff over to begin with, there's also that.]

Why did you give them to a witch?

[partymagician]

As payment! You see, my group needed a certain object in one of the worlds we were in, so I gave my staff over in exchange.

[ He doesn't seem too upset about it, though, even if the staff was nice. ]

I believe she's holding our clothes for now too, until we pay her back for her Valentine's Day gift.

[undertakings]

[Payment makes sense, at least. Nothing too weird about that, although.]

You seem well-acquainted with her.

[If she's going to go so far as to present them with a Valentine's Day gift...?!]

[partymagician]

I am, more or less. To tell you the truth, I haven't met her many times, but...

[ He hums, trying to think of the best way to put it. ]

A witch as powerful as her will know you well, whether or not you've met her. Or at least, it certainly feels that way!

[undertakings]

[There's a bit of sideeye going on, although it's less directed at Fai and more at everything else.]

...That makes her sound like the Instructor.

[The profiles...]

Hmmm... she's much more trustworthy than Lorelei could ever aspire to be.

[ He smiles a little. ]

I don't think she would ever gather information on us that wasn't necessary.

[undertakings]

[Lorelei is such a low bar to clear, but well, Fai would know better than Shin would anyhow. It's also not his place to get involved in other people's affairs especially when they don't seem worried about it themselves, so he just falls silent as he continues to walk.

Either way, the campus and the dorms are coming into view; he'll fall back behind Fai at this point since he's assuming the destination is probably Room 8!]

[ Fai doesn’t mind drifting into silence, content to just enjoy the walk.

But when they get back to the dorms, he quickly opens up the door to he and Hien’s room. It’s pretty clean, outside of the boxes of things they have. Fai makes a beeline for the storage under his bed, opening the dresser drawer. ]

I decided to keep it in here until I figured out what to do with it…

[ He takes out the scarf, a very faded blue, and presents it to Shin. ]

[Fai had already said he didn't have much in terms of personal possessions, so the room being clean makes sense to some extent there. Hien... well, he never got the impression Hien would've owned too much either.

Either way, Shin hangs back by the doorframe until Fai actually takes out the scarf, his gaze softening a bit as he reaches out for the fabric. He handles it gently--far more gently than he did with any of the items from the clothing store--as he turns it over in his hands, like he's refamiliarizing himself with it. After the moment passes, he folds it up into a neat square before looking back at Fai.]

[ Fai smiles softly, noticing the great care that Shin has when he handles the scarf. It's a stark contrast to the way he handled all of those clothes, that's for sure. ]

Of course. I can tell it's well-loved, so I wanted to make sure I didn't damage it.
