02 - week two

WEEK TWO

When the glitter settles and everyone returns to their dorms - or wherever they intend to sleep for the night, if you’re planning on sleeping at all - your first week of school officially ends. Perhaps it was better than you expected, perhaps it was worse.

Hopefully you learned a bit more about teamwork and school spirit.

Still, this course is going to run for longer than a full week, and come Sunday morning you’re still exactly as you were when you settled down for the night. Still in Estelline, still with that mark on your wrist, still connected to your partner. There are some changes, though. The bookstore has received quite a few books, and those of you who added to the bulletin board and pep rally tasks in the first week will find an envelope taped to their dorm door (or themselves, if they spent the night elsewhere). Inside of the envelope is some kind of voucher! Furthermore, the common area is covered in a bunch of glitter.

Also, there are a ton of eggs in the kitchen – at least 10 dozens.

Florence or Lorelei are still available, should you wish to speak to them.

Finally, you've got some new locations to explore.

OOC NOTE

OOC: Anyone who performed in the Pep Rally (Sabo, Madara, Riku, Shizuku, Herlock, Idia, Flat, Miach) task will be able to redeem a voucher for a prize with one of the NPCs. This can be handwaved, and the prize selection is below.

-Single-serve coffee machine wither a selection of creamer. Comes with packs of coffee beans.
-Popcorn maker and kernels.
-High-quality tea kettle with a selection of just as high-quality tea.
-Carbonation machine (think Sodastream, etc) with flavored syrup.

Any coffee, tea, popcorn, etc. will last characters up to two weeks.

Anyone who participated in the Bulletin Board task will receive a voucher for your choice of two pairs colorful socks with cute animal designs. (Worry frog design available.)

It’s quite strange, isn’t it? I’ve never been in a newly abandoned place before.

[ Well. Not a place where he can’t see any immediate aftermath of what happened. ]

It's like all of the inhabitants were just spirited away... or maybe as though they'd never been here in the first place.

[ Miach twirls her braid in her hand, staring out the window in thought. ]

I don't think we can discount the possibility of this being an elaborate stage set just for us.

Hmm... I don't think we can either.

[ She brings up a very interesting thought, one that Fai hasn't spent much time entertaining. ]

They've gone through so much effort already, so I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if they did that.

A little like that old movie, The Truman show, but instead of playing out a daily life for us, they are generating an artificial mystery world and observing how we react to those stimuli.

[ That's just what people who experiment with minds do, probably. ]

What movie is that? I've never heard of it.

[ But he thinks she might have a point with that... the lessons would make a lot of sense in that context. ]

It's a satire from the late 20th century. A man named Truman, a pun on 'True Man' obviously, is the star of a reality TV show without his knowing. He's been raised within a TV set for all his life, with every person in his life being a paid actor.

He lives out this completely ordinary life but it is a life of artifice - all for the benefit of an audience. None of the relationships in his life are 'real'. When he is 30 years old, the illusion begins to fall apart and he begins desiring an escape.

He trades in the faked certain happy everyday that revolves entirely around him for an uncertain but real life.

What an interesting premise...

I suppose it made everyone think about which they would rather choose for themselves... a fake but happy life, or an uncertain yet real one.
