02 - week two

WEEK TWO

When the glitter settles and everyone returns to their dorms - or wherever they intend to sleep for the night, if you’re planning on sleeping at all - your first week of school officially ends. Perhaps it was better than you expected, perhaps it was worse.

Hopefully you learned a bit more about teamwork and school spirit.

Still, this course is going to run for longer than a full week, and come Sunday morning you’re still exactly as you were when you settled down for the night. Still in Estelline, still with that mark on your wrist, still connected to your partner. There are some changes, though. The bookstore has received quite a few books, and those of you who added to the bulletin board and pep rally tasks in the first week will find an envelope taped to their dorm door (or themselves, if they spent the night elsewhere). Inside of the envelope is some kind of voucher! Furthermore, the common area is covered in a bunch of glitter.

Also, there are a ton of eggs in the kitchen – at least 10 dozens.

Florence or Lorelei are still available, should you wish to speak to them.

Finally, you've got some new locations to explore.

OOC NOTE

OOC: Anyone who performed in the Pep Rally (Sabo, Madara, Riku, Shizuku, Herlock, Idia, Flat, Miach) task will be able to redeem a voucher for a prize with one of the NPCs. This can be handwaved, and the prize selection is below.

-Single-serve coffee machine wither a selection of creamer. Comes with packs of coffee beans.
-Popcorn maker and kernels.
-High-quality tea kettle with a selection of just as high-quality tea.
-Carbonation machine (think Sodastream, etc) with flavored syrup.

Any coffee, tea, popcorn, etc. will last characters up to two weeks.

Anyone who participated in the Bulletin Board task will receive a voucher for your choice of two pairs colorful socks with cute animal designs. (Worry frog design available.)

[I'm...80% sure he wouldn't try to play a cello like a violin, which is twenty percent less than it should be. We know this is Sholmes, anything can happen, hah]

[Sholmes shakes the viola like it's the object's fault this all happened]

How unacceptable, that someone attempts to pass a viola for a violin in my presence once again.

[Having admitted this is not the first time such a thing happens, Sholmes harrumphs, grabs it better, and...well, he manages to get from the viola a far more pleasant sound than before, mostly because he's not trying to play it like a goddamn violin anymore. He's far from an expert, but it's not...horrifyingly discordant noises, that's an improvement. Looks like he can perform the basics, thank goodness]

[ im in tears please sholmes... and while sholmes is having a moment of realization, sabo will be evaluating his opinion of the great detective. which is kind of dubious and he's really not sure what to make of all of it. ]

[ because this comes with a fair bit of implications but sabo is pleased that sholmes isn't causing sound crimes anymore. though— ]

You're pretty talented in these sort of instruments, aren't you?

[ sure violins and violas have overlap but they're not the same and it does speak to a bit of his skill. ]

[Sholmes waves the bow of the viola, gesturing while he speaks]

Of course! I have been practicing violin even before I became the great detective I am today. As proof of my dedication, I acquired a quality Stradivarius.

[He saw it in a pawn shop, sold by a pittance. Of course he swooped in and bought it, but given his...excessive spending ways, he probably would have paid the full price if he had felt like it]

Knowing my daughter likes to listen to me play, I couldn't stop practicing although I got busier and focused on other endeavors.

[His trusty partner probably liked it too, which would have been even more encouragement]

[ shame; if only sabo understood brands of violins, or well, understood different brands of violins and came from a world where that branding overlap existed. either way, he'll just accept sholmes' claim of it being high quality. ]

I'm not familiar with a Stradivarius. That name isn't something that exists where I'm from. Is there something particular about it that makes it stand out above other violins?

[ the comment about his daughter makes sabo smile a bit. ]

And I hope she appreciated your dedication to the art for her sake.

The quality of the craftsmanship, my dear fellow, the quality! It's unlike any other maker's. It's not for nothing counterfeit violins imitate the label.

[Label present in the violin Sabo obtained from gacha, indeed. i totally had to google if these violins even have any differences turns out the answer is 'not really']

She does, for the most part. If only she had as much of an interest in music as I do...but no child is perfect. She makes up plenty with her skill in other areas. I can overlook her disinterest in learning music.

[Bragging about Iris? Oh, yes. Sholmes doesn't really like to talk about himself or most things about his life, but these days he has a lot to be proud of when it comes to Iris -- not that she hadn't given him plenty of reasons to be proud of her before]

A label? [ hmmm. ] I wonder if the violin I got has some sort of label somewhere.

[ but that's something for him to ponder when he gets back to his room; for now he'll love to hear more about iris and will cross his arms over his chest. sabo's history with his parents is...something but he's more than happy to listen to others' stories. ]

If she doesn't care for music like her dad, then what does she dabble in? And perhaps she didn't want to learn music because she rather listen to you play.

Medical science, my good fellow. Iris is a certified doctor despite her young age -- and she is as good with engineering and machines as I am!

[Maybe she would also be able to give him a run for his money when it's about deductions because she's brilliant, but chances are Iris will find her own path in life and be hella successful]

She certainly has a lot accomplished for you to be proud of. [ ... ] How old is your daughter?

[ we support iris in every chance we get, but also sabo is curious to know how old she is. sholmes isn't that old so he can't imagine having a daughter that much older than him.

teenagers can be doctors in one piece world. frowns. ]

Ten years old.

[These universes and their kids and teenagers having complicated jobs, can you believe it]

[ it's. really something...... but you know there's also no medical board to report to. ]

A certified doctor at ten—that's truly amazing. I can't say I was up to anything good when I was that age.

You remember what you were doing at that age?

[Little Sabo in the Goa Kingdom, most likely far before he was the Chief of Staff. Having adventures and freedom and maybe fights]

I'm happy to say that I do.

[ he was definitely having fights and adventures of something, that's for sure. there will be a sound of great fondness as he responds as well. ]

Did you know Mr. Ace back then, too?

[Perhaps not, given they have different hometowns, but you never know!]

I did. I've known Ace for most of my life.

Your friend seems like an interesting man, although with a strange pyromaniac tendency, if his skill is any indication.

[ sabo has to laugh at that because guess it would seem like something strange for anyone else who looked at it. ]

It's because of a particular fruit he ate in our world. After eating it, his body became fire. [ hm. no, not quite right. ] Or he could turn into fire.

[ tiredly looks at devil fruit. ]
