01.50 - week one, saturday

W1 SATURDAY
The first week of the Personal Enrichment Course draws to a close, which means it’s time for the first lesson. Hopefully by now you’ve gotten to know your classmates a bit better - but if you haven’t, that’s okay.

This first lesson is just going to be teamwork exercises, after all.

Bright and early Saturday morning, you wake up. Maybe you had a good night’s rest, or maybe you hardly got any sleep... Either way, the sun is shining, the day is beginning, and Lorelei's voice suddenly comes through everyone's tablets as well as the P.A. system on campus.

”Good morning. All students must report to the lecture hall by 8 o’clock for their first lesson. Lessons are mandatory. Please report to the classroom with its doors open.”

Which gives you about thirty minutes, so it’d be best to hurry. Do you want to be tardy? And if you think about bailing, well… you know what might happen if you fail the course.

When everyone gathers in the same hall they awoke in, Florence is there to greet you. They will gesture for everyone to take a seat, and once seated, the projector in the room turns on. Say hello to Lorelei and her usual cup of coffee.

“Good morning, everyone. Welcome to your first official exercise; today’s activities are designed to emphasize teamwork and cooperation so you are all more prepared for dealing with what’s yet to come. I have already split you into teams for the day, via raffle. There will be two activities total, and you will be completing them in the same teams. Regardless of whether you get along with your teammates or not, you’re going to have to figure out a way to finish each exercise successfully.”

She keeps that same calm, collected smile on her lips as she props up what appears to be a tablet of her own on her desk.

I think positioning it near the top, facing forward at... let's say a 15 to 20 degree angle from the top would work. If you're opening it while it's in front of you, you just look straight down at it, and if you're opening it while wearing it at your side, you turn to that side and look down, and it's still roughly the same angle. Might take a little practice getting it just right, but you can do that before you go out into the field.

[ This is the power of product development... ]

That sort of versatility is invaluable, particularly in a pinch. [ He brings a hand to his chin, thinking. ] Are there any other improvements to make to our retinal scan, or shall we call it here?
pr159: (throw in a factory too)

I'd add a manual lens cover that you can slide open and closed at will to avoid any possibility of unlocking it unintentionally... but aside from that, I think we're good on this feature.
catarou: (A fascinating drama)

An excellent addition. To the next, then.

So, visual design? I'd say black would be the most universally appealing color, for starters.
catarou: (with such tomfoolery once more)

I agree. And should one want to customize it, it will serve as a striking and adaptable base.

As for materials, perhaps a particularly durable linen. It will hold its shape longer than cotton. Linen has the advantage of being fairly breathable, so if there happens to be some sort of spill or mess on the outside or inside, it is likely to adopt an unpleasant smell.

[ Unless it's blood but it's probably fine. ]

On the other hand, cotton is able to be washed many times, even though it holds smell and bacteria more easily. It is strong as well, and tends not to lose its strength easily. The integrity of the shape may be lost, but perhaps that is a sacrifice we are willing to make?
pr159: (then let's hear you say it)

It's certainly likely to get dirty. Why not use a synthetic fabric that would be more durable and easier to clean?
catarou: (Would you mind showing me)

While not aesthetically pleasing--for myself, that is--nylon may be the solution, then. Unless you have another option?
