01 - week one

WEEK ONE

You survived orientation. You’ve met the person you’re going to be partnered with for the duration of this course, and at least part of the campus is open to explore. The kitchen and convenience store are restocked just as promised, though depending on what you ate on Sunday night, they might look a little more...scarce than when you first arrived.

You have the rest of the week to get to know your partner and your other classmates, mentally prepare for the mission on Saturday, and keep yourself busy with tasks for the week if you so choose. You can also choose to speak to Florence or Lorelei.

[Shin's definitely one of the people who just happened to enter in, but he doesn't turn around and leave either, so that's something. Instead, pauses and eyes the chessboard from where he's standing by the door before eventually walking in and taking a seat opposite Mutsu.]

...I don't really mind, but isn't this just swapping out one monarchy for another?

[This is possibly putting too much thought into that statement but look.]

Well... I guess if that's how you wanna play.

(How many other ways are there to play chess.)

Nothing stopping ya from taking over and making your own government, though.

[His brow furrows slightly at that.]

But both sides have kings.

[Are they gonna chop off the top of the pieces so that the crowns are gone or something...?!]

[tosa]

(Elbow on the table, resting his chin on his palm and looking at him,)

What kinda leader d'ya want?

[undertakings]

[He looks right back at Mutsu for a second before he just shrugs.]

...It doesn't really make a difference to me. Anything's fine, I guess.

[tosa]

C'mon, don't be all wishy-washy.

(He picks up his king piece and waves it in his face as he speaks,)

If you could make your own world, what would ya want?

[undertakings]

[There isn't much of a reaction to the king being in his face besides a blink, but he does seem to consider the question for a moment.]

There isn't anything I'd want in particular. Even if the system might be different, it's still run by people, in the end. So really... it's all the same to me.

[tosa]

Huh... sounds like you gotta problem with people.

(Which isn't strange or anything. He knows plenty of anti-social spirits.)

I wouldn’t call it a problem... That’s just the way it is.

[He says it blandly, like he’s stating a fact instead of his own opinion.]

[tosa]

Ah.

(Just, "ah.")

Gotta point there. In all of history, it's always gonna be about people but not everyone's gonna be the same. 'Least that's what I think.

(He speaks lightly. He isn't really going to argue it. He knows when to talk and this isn't really it.)

... Hey, what d'ya like? Cars or ships?

[undertakings]

[“Ah” indeed. Honestly, he’s not even sure how they got on that topic, really. He thought it was supposed to be a metaphor for chess at first...?! But he does give something of a noncommittal hum to Mutsu’s point about history, which is as much of an acknowledgement that’s going to get. This is how you converse, right.

The non sequitur is also pretty strange, but he’ll roll with it, even if he does cant his head the slightest bit.]

Cars, I guess. I haven’t seen an actual ship before.

[tosa]

(Conversations are amazing! They can start off one way and end up in a totally different direction. It's why he likes talking to people so much.

He rummages through some instruction manuals and random game pieces to take out... a little silver monopoly car.)

How about this instead of a king?

[undertakings]

[There's a long stare at the Monopoly car and a faint look of confusion before he decides you know what, fuck it, why not.]

[He holds his palm out for the car. Let's do this.]
