06.50 - week six, saturday
W6 SATURDAY
It’s Saturday…and things seem a little more standard, this time, when Lorelei makes a quick announcement on the tablets again at 8am:
”Good morning, students. It’s time for your sixth…and final official lesson. Yes. What this means is that this is the final detected orb located here, and while this does not indicate the end of the course just yet, it is the final day for your evaluation. Florence will meet you in front of the grocery store at 8pm tonight. Please do not be late. You are also free to bring a self-defense weapon with you, and any pain-alleviating items you have received. Nothing else will be allowed.”
She seems to be her usual self this time, and this certainly seems a lot kinder than the "trust exercise" from last week.
—
With the memories of last week’s lesson still lingering, a bit of wariness would be understandable. Still, Florence did say that this week shouldn’t be nearly so bad - whether you believe them or not is up to you - and they’re there at the grocery store, ready for another lesson.
They do seem a bit distracted, as it takes them a moment before they address everyone.
“Hello. Today’s lesson will be focused purely on cooperation. It is another journey into an orb, so things may be unpredictable, but nothing so severe…”
They trail off, before nodding at nothing.
“There is a storm. You must prepare to survive it, and prepare for any other eventualities. As I said, it may be unpredictable. I will be around to help in any way I possibly can.”
With that, it’s off into another orb - and the lush island on the other side. Surely this won’t be too hard, right?

OOC NOTE
Welcome to Week 6 Saturday's event. As Lorelei stated above, this is the final orb lesson for the game. Characters will have to work together to survive on a deserted island through an oncoming storm. How this will work OOCly is simple:
There will be three phases. Planning, gathering, and constructing. Planning will be short and mostly designed to have everyone gather their bearings and figure out who's doing what. Gathering will be collecting materials to help with their survival. Constructing will involve fortifying your "home base" so to speak.
Gathering and Constructing will run for 2 hours each. At the 1 hour mark for both phases, however, random events will happen that may throw characters off-kilter. There may be other things in between depending on character actions, but you can expect them at the hour mark at the very least. Planning will only last for 30 minutes, unless an extension is needed.
These instructions are not IC. This is for OOC organizational purposes.
We also have a section for people to submit threads so we can track progress and determine the outcome of the event. Qualifying threads must have at least 5 comments from you; more details can be found on the top level below.
The storm will happen at 5pm EST.

[If he needs anything else he better say something because she's off!]

G- Get as many as you caaaaa~n!
no subject
Anyway she is now off on leaf quest, will she find any big waxy leaves that can be used for water purification?]
no subject
no subject
Pretty soon she comes running back to Idia carrying a huge bundle of the things in her little kitty arms.]
Hey blue hair! Special delivery!
no subject
Good work. [without really thinking about it, he gives her a headpat- not a "pet" but the kind you would give a little sibling that did a good job]
[(mae is, still, two years older than him)]
With all these I can try a few d-different ways of funneling it.
no subject
Anyway what is this headpatting from a teenager? Does he think he gets to do this just because he's taller?!
She doesn't stop him though; if anything she looks pleased.]
You have a whole setup figured out, huh? [She looks at it curiously.]
no subject
M- Mmhm. You see it in a lot of cartoons and comic and such where s- someone gets stranded.
[While Mae's been gone, he's started some holes in the ground to try and minimize their bucket use. The holes have some seawater in them but it's clear Idia's not, like, majorly set them up yet. Not until he's got the collection set up! He points,]
Th- this one works with just the sun, evaporating the water and leaving behind the salt... the one over there w- we can boil the water ourselves.
no subject
[Too bad she doesn't remember more or she might be more help. But she nods along with what Idia's telling her.]
You're not just a genius with computers, you're a genius with everything.
no subject
[... and then she praises him and he looks pleased, so pleased]
That's right! Fiction has prepared me for a lifetime of survival situations! Physical weakness can be overcome with an application of genius!
[nerd]
no subject
Mae doesn't necessarily disagree with him, though.]
Yeah! What do they say? Work smarter not harder?
[She's pretty sure Idia embodies that philosophy.]
Is there anything else you need for this?
no subject
Since we only have three buckets, um... maybe some more stuff t-to hold water? What would it be in a book...
[...]
Coconuts?
no subject
Oh yeah, and we can drink the water out of them, too!
[Except she has not seen any coconuts... they did not turn up on her fruit quest.]
A melon rind might work, too... [She didn't find any of those either.]
no subject
[he did not wiki a lot of origami tho]
no subject
[She hasn't either... But she's going to take the leaves and give it a good ol' college (dropout) try!
She uses the broadest part as the base, then tries to fold the edges up into sides, wrapping them together. She tries a few configurations until she ends up with... something that is a bit lopsided but maybe capable of holding water?]
no subject
[... Mae's seems good enough!!]
It looks a little fragile b- but... there were a lot of these leaves, s- so if it breaks we just make another, right?
no subject
[Since she thinks this one may unfold pretty easily... she's having to hold it very carefully.]
Man, living without modern technology is harder than I thought... [Mae it's been like two hours.]
no subject
[emphasis on not me, pls]
... tell me about it... y- you know, the internet back at campus didn't have a lot of stuff but I'm even missing those clickbait content farm videos.
[looking up and staring into the middle distance, royalty-free five minute craft music playing in his head]
Stranded on a deserted island HACKS...
no subject
[She doesn't think most of those hacks worked for anything.]
Still some how-tos would be good...
