06.50 - week six, saturday
W6 SATURDAY
It’s Saturday…and things seem a little more standard, this time, when Lorelei makes a quick announcement on the tablets again at 8am:
”Good morning, students. It’s time for your sixth…and final official lesson. Yes. What this means is that this is the final detected orb located here, and while this does not indicate the end of the course just yet, it is the final day for your evaluation. Florence will meet you in front of the grocery store at 8pm tonight. Please do not be late. You are also free to bring a self-defense weapon with you, and any pain-alleviating items you have received. Nothing else will be allowed.”
She seems to be her usual self this time, and this certainly seems a lot kinder than the "trust exercise" from last week.
—
With the memories of last week’s lesson still lingering, a bit of wariness would be understandable. Still, Florence did say that this week shouldn’t be nearly so bad - whether you believe them or not is up to you - and they’re there at the grocery store, ready for another lesson.
They do seem a bit distracted, as it takes them a moment before they address everyone.
“Hello. Today’s lesson will be focused purely on cooperation. It is another journey into an orb, so things may be unpredictable, but nothing so severe…”
They trail off, before nodding at nothing.
“There is a storm. You must prepare to survive it, and prepare for any other eventualities. As I said, it may be unpredictable. I will be around to help in any way I possibly can.”
With that, it’s off into another orb - and the lush island on the other side. Surely this won’t be too hard, right?

OOC NOTE
Welcome to Week 6 Saturday's event. As Lorelei stated above, this is the final orb lesson for the game. Characters will have to work together to survive on a deserted island through an oncoming storm. How this will work OOCly is simple:
There will be three phases. Planning, gathering, and constructing. Planning will be short and mostly designed to have everyone gather their bearings and figure out who's doing what. Gathering will be collecting materials to help with their survival. Constructing will involve fortifying your "home base" so to speak.
Gathering and Constructing will run for 2 hours each. At the 1 hour mark for both phases, however, random events will happen that may throw characters off-kilter. There may be other things in between depending on character actions, but you can expect them at the hour mark at the very least. Planning will only last for 30 minutes, unless an extension is needed.
These instructions are not IC. This is for OOC organizational purposes.
We also have a section for people to submit threads so we can track progress and determine the outcome of the event. Qualifying threads must have at least 5 comments from you; more details can be found on the top level below.
The storm will happen at 5pm EST.

It'll be a lot... but if there are more helping hands than expected, it should go relatively fine.

[No one should expect good results from turning Phantom loose in the jungle, probably, so here he is.]
no subject
Let's tie your hair back first.
no subject
Ah, right. I suppose that will be in the way.
[A lot like Phantom tbh]

I feel like you have construction experience... or at least, planning it.
[ gestures to billboard for the past several weeks, blanket fort delight, and the blueprint ]

Planning and design, primarily. At least without my magic to materialize things. It's not what I'd usually work on, but the principles should still apply.

[ Hien looks back at the hut. It's made of wooden planks. It also has a floor. Not very sturdy... ]
We have a foundation, so that's already a load off our shoulders. We can fortify the walls with the wood they bring and connect it to the flooring too, so that it'll be sturdier. Absolutely no windows. It would be great if we had a tarp for the roof, but we can use moss instead. What do you think?
no subject
I think the roof is going to be the biggest problem, depending on the amount of wind. We could maybe use something like large leaves as well to get something together faster, and the moss to insulate. Sturdier would be better, of course, but...
[He'll start sketching some things, he feels a little better already.]

can he look at the back of it? is it possible to open the back and take a look at the circuits? any loose cables? ]
no subject
Also, the station indicator dial seems to be stuck in place! (Hopefully that makes things easier.) ]
no subject
okay, fine, this isn't the worst that he's worked with. he'll try to blow off some of the excess sand that's in the radio and use the screwdriver to work out whatever stuck bits there are, trying to be delicate enough to not fuck up the circuits.
as for the knob, can he see from the inside what might be holding it in place? is he unable to move it forwards or backwards or just in one direction? ]

no subject
actually, now that we're at it, how does this radio look in general? are there any identifiable features about it? ]

If not, is he stuck here until the next stage or can Mae drag him off to get fruit if he turns up nothing? ]

AN EVENT.
Another giant crab seems to be waddling its way towards it. The supply drop is behind the hut. ]
no subject
Hien just thinks of food. This 8 feet crab definitely has FOOD POTENTIAL. So Hien tries to sneak up on the crab with his knife and attempts to stab the ganglia from its underside. He's cooked crabs before, so may death be swift. ]
no subject
And it seems like luck is on Hien's side, because the crab absolutely botched it's perception check and doesn't notice his approach and he succeeds in stabbing the crab's soft(er) underbelly. Damaging its ganglia does stop it's forward march to the hut as it finds it can't use it's legs anymore, but it still has it's pincers and it's not going to go down without trying to snap at Hien.]
no subject
Hien immediately backs up and tries to climb the crab from behind to whack its frontal nerve center with a hammer. He's trying to give you a painless death, crabby... ]
no subject
A for effort, but it's hard to get his footing on the crab's shell and Hien just... slips off and lands on his back. He might be dazed for a moment or two, but at least he just landed on sand.
And at least his first strike hitting somewhere so vulnerable means it's going to be very hard for the crab to actually hit him. This is actually a great window if someone just wants to grab the supply drop, because it's almost hit the ground.]
no subject
So, he flexes his hand a few times and books it after the supply drop. ]
no subject
Also thank God for Julius so that Hien doesnt have to worry about the package right now. Also his arm/stomach hurts a little. The heck is Fai doing... ]
