04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[ There's a quiet pause as the pieces of what's going on here get put together. It takes a moment of watching the scene, also seemingly stuck on the small form on the stretcher, before he pulls himself off, looking down at the young Miach standing nearby. That look isn't something unfamiliar to him, especially at that age.

A hand goes on her shoulder. ]

You don't need to keep watching if you don't want.

[ Not really a scold or anything, just a gentle reminder. ]

[ Miach looks over at the hand, the stranger attached to it, and back at the hand. She does not feel particularly comforted by the gesture. She does not like to be touched - but she's also not going to defy an adult right now. ]

I want to watch. It's the last I'll see him.

[ Her lack of a reaction is more than enough for him to pull back. ]

Was he a friend of yours?

[ Miach shrugs softly, both in response to the question and because she's glad to be rid of the weight of that hand. ]

We sometimes played together. I didn't think he'd die.

[ She seems more thoughtful than outright sad about that. ]

Even here, children die.

[ Given what Miach told him before, it doesn't take much to be able to put two and two together. Ah. ]

It happens more often than you might think.

[ In some cases, hundreds of millions of times over. It's a wonder Julius managed to make it as long as he has, despite everything. ]

Not everything is fixable, unfortunately. Despite our best attempts, it doesn't always work out the way we want.

[ Miach nods. She is glad to have it given to her straight that way. And she is astounded how much of a relief it is to be able to have a blunt conversation like this.

Her mother and father would never have responded with this much honesty - but they would not have thought of it as lying. They would have assumed to be doing her a kindness.

It's that honesty which inspires her to be honest in turn, freed by speaking to a complete stranger. ]

... he was born here. I thought it was a problem with me, see? I thought it was because I don't belong here. But he was born here, he spent his whole life here, and he still hated it so much he could die.

[ Honestly, if he didn't know better, Julius would probably be talking the same way as her parents, at least somewhat. It's definitely not something someone as young as her should have to contend with. Not that the world really cares about things like that.

He looks down at her, adjusting his glasses. ]

Sometimes being born into it helps. Other times it doesn't. It's not a problem with you, I can tell you that much.

[ And she stares up, looking surprised and a whole lot more like a curious child than she usually does. ]

Do you also struggle?

[ It takes him a second for him to come up with an answer, like he's not entirely sure of how to answer. ]

Sometimes. Not as much as I used to. [ He pauses for a moment. ] Do you live with anyone?

[ It's all kind of related, even if it seems like he's diverting a bit. ]

My parents.

[ They're not her real parents and Miach doesn't truly think of them as such, but she's been told over and over that this is her family, her home, it's good for her to think of it as such and refer to it as such... It's not worth it to put up a fight about the denomination when it is legally true. ]

My mother is inside. I snuck out through the window.
