04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[The tent part doesn't raise any red flags, because Marcus already knows that Hien is a weird little guy. The looking tired... well, honestly, how many of them have really been sleeping well lately? Marcus knows he sure hasn't.

That patch of dried blood definitely causes a raise of the eyebrows, though, and so he pauses outside the tent to fix Hien with a suspicious look.]

... I'm not sure whether I'd be more worried if I knew that was yours or someone else's.

[ Hien is just sitting inside the tent, cooking some instant ramen in a pot with other ingredients when he turns his head slowly to look over at Marcus. ]

Why? It's just a tent.

I meant what's on the tent. Last I checked, they don't usually come from the stores looking like that.

[I mean maybe in Hien's world they do! But then he would have even more concerns.]

[ Hien stops stirring the pot and squints at Marcus. ]

If it's bird shit, I'll clean it later.

[ Looks like he isn't aware. ]

I was talking about the blood. You can't tell me you didn't notice that.

Hien's expression darkens quickly without a word. ]

[ He goes back to stirring the pot. ]

Just leave it alone. I can tell people it's paint decoration.

[Marcus is quick to raise his hands in a placating gesture. Looks like he touched a nerve accidentally...]

Hey, no judgment here. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't yours, that's all, and I'm gonna assume that means it's not.

[ He says without hesitation. ]

It's probably not from anyone here either. Don't worry about it.

Fine, fine. Then I'll just worry about the fact you look like the walking dead instead, how's that?

[Two can play at this game, Hien.]

[ Hien turns to give Marcus another dead stare. ]

I've always been the walking dead.

[ Their chatter awakens the wolf that was sleeping inside the blanket and it pokes its head out to stare at Marcus.

... ]

[... okay, that definitely gets Marcus' attention here. It's probably a good thing he's not armed or else he would instinctively be reaching for his gunblade...]

... uh. Friend of yours?

[Please say yes.]

Yeah.

[ The wolf continues to stare at Marcus. who is this man and why is he encroaching into my territory-- ]

He's a friend. No biting.

[ It doesn't stop the staring, but it doesn't look hostile, at least. ]

He got a name?

[Prooooooobably not gonna stick his hand out for a sniff just yet, he's not sure he loves that staring... at least there's no growling, so that's a plus?]

I appreciate the no biting, though...

[ Hien stares at Marcus for a very, very long time until— ]

Maybe I should name him Mark.

[mirrite]

[... this look, Hien. Just. This look.]

... sure, let's go with that. He looks pretty tough.

You wanna be seen as tough?

[ He's cracking jokes again, which is a good sign. ]

[mirrite]

What, you don't think I am?

[He's probably asking for it with that and he knows it, but hey, Hien seems to be in a better mood now!]

My body can still feel it.

[ Grumbling... but he doesn't look mad about it, so he's fine. ]

Hey, Mark. Go greet your godfather.

[ The wolf raises its head. ]

[mirrite]

[Now Marcus actually will kneel down and hold out a hand for the wolf to sniff if it wants, grinning.]

Yeah, I think I could get used to this. "Godfather," huh. It's got a nice ring to it.

[ The wolf, now dubbed as Mark, slowly pads over to Marcus and sniffs his hand. Hien has been staring at this entire time and seems to be have something like a pressuring atmosphere. A hidden scary vibe. The wolf obeys. ]

... It's funny, because animals usually hate me on sight. "Godfather Marcus Grimm"...

[ ... ]

Too long.

[mirrite]

[Now Marcus actually laughs, loud and unrestrained and clearly amused. If the wolf will allow it, he'll lift his hand just enough to give it a friendly scratch under the chin.]

Gonna have to agree with that one there. Not to mention way too stiff. It's weird how just adding my last name can make it sound so bad.

[ The wolf is like "what is this gesture... I don't understand", but at least it's not trying to bite Marcus. ]

Anyone call you Mr. Grimm before?

Other than Florence, you mean? Nah. My men aren't anywhere near that formal. It'd just be weird.

[He grimaces a little at the thought.]

[ Hien almost snorts. ]

Your energy... it's not bad.

[ He's not as depressed when talking to Marcus somehow. Hm. ]
