04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[Madara speaks softly, crouching a bit.]

Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I don't know what's going on here, actually...

[ He shakes his head, seeing no reason for him to apologize. ]

No one here is supposed to be alive except for me... and Fai.

[ He pauses. ]

The guilty are sent here after they die.

[Fai. That bright, cheerful guy? Madara met him day one. Liked him, even. They've been nothing but cheery at each other.

Oh, dear. He hates eating his notions of people on a regular day, but this is...]

Are they? Where is this?

[ He doesn't know where this is...? He gives the stranger a confused look before realizing... he must have gotten here through some other means. Maybe he doesn't know where they are. ]

Valeria.

[ And if Madara remembers Fai's profile, Valeria was listed as his hometown. ]

In this valley, magic doesn't work and time flows differently. As punishment, those found guilty of crimes are executed and then left here for eternity.

[He remembers that much. So that's... disconcerting.]

The worst ones.

[ The lesser crimes, not so much. But with all the women, children, and elderly here... there's clearly something else going on. ]

That's how it used to be. There are more now, though. Too many.

[As he looks around, the initial answer doesn't add up. Children? Committing the "worst" crimes? And the elderly? Yeah, none of that makes sense.]

And what's your job? Why're you here?

...As punishment. Twin princes are an omen for Valeria, and Fai and I are twins.

[ ... ]

Neither of us would offer to die, so we were sent here to suffer. If we suffer enough, Valeria will be rid of our curse.

[ But their suffering hasn't seemed to work, has it? ]

[Ouch. That's... definitely not how stuff works. He can't imagine that it works like that even in a place with magic. Omens and such things aren't real, at least not in Madara's world.

But this is a memory. Madara can't change it, can't do anything about it.

All he can do is show kindness and compassion, which at times is a feat for him. He can fake it all day long, but this genuinely makes his heart hurt and his stomach turn.]

So what's with moving the bodies?

[ He looks over at pile of bodies he had been stacking. ]

...I'm trying to get myself enough of a boost to climb up. If I keep trying... I can make it.

[ His voice is determined, and his fingers are torn up and bloody to match said determination. They look like they've been cut open over and over again with no chance to properly heal. ]

[Interesting.]

I'm here, and I'm pretty strong, so why don't I help you out? Tell me where to start, and you just sit down for a minute.

I... are you sure?

[ He looks trouble by that. ]

I don't want to force you to do something like that.

[And, as if to prove his point, he hefts a body up like it's nothing and moves it over to add to the pile.]

[ Well... he seems okay, at least.

He sits down on the ground, the exhaustion getting to him. ]

...Thank you. I know that it isn't easy.

[festiverogue]

[He's just going to keep at it while chatting. Idol stamina.]

It's harder for you than it is for me. Don't worry about it even a little bit.

Oh... okay.

[ He still feels guilty, but if he insists... ]

[ Might as well get this guy's name while he's being so helpful. ]
