04 - week four

WEEK FOUR

Saturday comes to a close, and it’s time for some rest and recovery. Perhaps the TLC you deserve will come this week, or perhaps the nightmare will continue. It’s hard to say with things being so strange around you, from Wei Wuxian’s disappearance to the sudden addition of objects and places and creatures from your homes. Who knows what this week will bring? Nothing ordinary, that’s for sure.

You wake up on Sunday to an increase in those little glimpses you saw yesterday. What were snippets of songs, locations that might’ve seemed familiar, and creatures that were dormant, are now all alive and whole. When you go to the karaoke bar, the songs you once knew are there. Monsters and animals are alive and sentient. New business are abound. Vehicles are operable, and perhaps some of your old belongings are back, too.

However, some of these things aren’t even things that should exist outside of your dreams. They may be far too strange and unusual to be real, or just things you don't remember ever seeing. The only thing you remember about these things in particular is that they were, quite literally, in your dreams this week.

That being said, every few hours, all of these things from your homes and dreams fade out and get replaced by new sounds, places, beasts….only to maybe come back again at another time.

Well. At least there's one constant here: You’ve got a handful of new locations to look at, with the fog having spread once more, and they aren't going anywhere. There aren’t as many new places that are native to Estelline this time around, but that may be for the best, considering everything going on.

Also, we have a lot of participants for the news activity from last week. Neat! Everyone who participated in some capacity will have a small polaroid camera delivered to their doorstep. There's limited film, though - 10 photos per camera. It doesn't seem like there's any extra film at this time, either.

Finally, there will not be any weekly tasks this week. You guys are going to be busy with memshare and dreamscape stuff; instead, enjoy the Estelline University Newspaper!

[ Gentaro doesn't really know how this is possible. He doesn't like it, though. Reliving one of the worst days of his life-- anyone would hate that, right? So, he isn't happy that anyone is seeing this, even someone like Hien. This is his. No one is supposed to see this. No one.

At the offer, he tenses visibly. ]

No. [ Even if the three other Ramudas are not his and Dice's, now that he's learned more and understands, it almost makes him sick to see them get hurt. They didn't choose this, after all. ] We-- that is, the past version of myself, Ramuda, and Dice will handle them.

If you were to get involved, you'd likely end up injured or worse. Ramuda's ability is creating very convincing illusions, you see. And more than that-- they're armed with their mics. The things they could do to you... It's far too much of a risk.

I can make them fall asleep.

[ ... ]

I mean that literally. No death. No injuries. Just sleep.

[ He feels the need to clarify that because they had a conversation about Hien being unhinged. At least he's self-aware. ]

Simply putting them to sleep won't be enough.

[ It's just a memory, right? The things that happen here-- there's no way it could influence reality, or change what he remembers. Still. ]

Chuohku is... determined. Upon waking, those three would pursue us relentlessly. [ a pause. ] Do you remember what I told you about the True Hypnosis Mic?

How if you use it, you die? But how it can also kill a man?

[ ... ]

Can I just get rid of Chuohku right here?

[ Hien, hopeful at Gentaro: violence? ]

[catarou]

[ He stiffens, inhaling sharply at the suggestion of getting rid of Chuohku--

But he looks at him, grim and pale and if that's a hint of fear in his eyes-- ]

Not kill, but for some, death would be preferable. For the victims of it, either you're brainwashed into doing their dirty work, or you fall into a comatose state with no way to come out of it.

As for getting rid of Chuohku, absolutely not.

[ Hien doesn't really want to test the potency of the Hypnosis Mic on himself, because while he is the Concept of Self, he's still considered to be a baby Overseer compared to the other two. He's easily affected and loses a lot of battles. ]

Why not? I thought you wanted that.

[catarou]

I do.

But it isn't as easy as simply waltzing in and fighting them. They have their own mics, their cancelers, and even if we could somehow handle that, we would be easily outnumbered. They would laugh at us before arresting us, or worse.

The Prime Minister, especially. Her abilities are matched by none. I don't want to see just how powerful she is when it's only us.

[selfconcept]

[ Hien momentarily closes his eyes and then looks back at Gentaro. ]

I destroyed worlds on my own. I think I'll be fine.

[ It's just a government! A coup!! He says it's like it's such a small thing, but. ]

... It would be easier with weapons though. Other than mics. Of course if they distribute weapons, they'll have ways to defend against it too. But for ones they don't expect...

[ oh my god hien you're going to make his blood pressure skyrocket ]

... As admirable as it is that you're so gung-ho about this, this is hardly a normal situation. You may have destroyed worlds, but there are ways to take you out.

Any weapons we could acquire would be rendered useless at best once they target us with their raps. At worst, they could be used against us. Do you remember when I told you that the mics cause hallucinations? It takes only a moment for you to be affected. It's as if you're stuck in place, unable to really do anything until the rap is over.

By then, it would be too late. We could turn those weapons against each other.

[ Well, you know what. Gentaro has a point. He may have destroyed worlds, but that was actually not done on purpose! It's because he fucked up!! He was supposed to save them!!

So. Fair. Hien's shoulders slump. ]

... I can sing, but I can't rap.

[ It's actually one of the things he refuses to do, but only for personal reasons--like the same way he would never learn how to play a piano well. ]

[catarou]

[ Ah, Hien... ]

There is nothing wrong with that, of course. [ He lets out a sigh. ] It is... a situation where we, all six divisions, must find a way to unite. [ As if that would-- could ever happen. ] Truly, however... I appreciate your trying to help.

[ He hesitates, as if he's about to say something. He stops himself, though. Hien's seen so much already; Gentaro isn't sure he wants to place more on him. ]

[ Hien raises an eyebrow at Gentaro while dropping the bundle of wires into a small portal that opens up near his own feet. It closes shortly after. ]

Cat got your tongue?

[catarou]

Ah, well.

[ He seems... embarrassed, actually. It's subdued, but yeah, it's definitely there. Gentaro hesitates, bringing a hand to his chin for a couple of moments. ]

I am... unused to offers of help.

[ He know Dice and Ramuda would help him at the drop of a hat, but... they know him, and they care about him. This is something else entirely, because he and Hien have known each other only a month. ]

I'm just doing what you would.

[ Hien doesn't care if the same sentiment isn't returned and he's wrong, but what matters most is that Gentaro gets something out of this. It may be a memory, but he thinks some sort of self-indulgence is alright. ]

I'm actually surprised they haven't noticed us yet.
