02 - week two

WEEK TWO

When the glitter settles and everyone returns to their dorms - or wherever they intend to sleep for the night, if you’re planning on sleeping at all - your first week of school officially ends. Perhaps it was better than you expected, perhaps it was worse.

Hopefully you learned a bit more about teamwork and school spirit.

Still, this course is going to run for longer than a full week, and come Sunday morning you’re still exactly as you were when you settled down for the night. Still in Estelline, still with that mark on your wrist, still connected to your partner. There are some changes, though. The bookstore has received quite a few books, and those of you who added to the bulletin board and pep rally tasks in the first week will find an envelope taped to their dorm door (or themselves, if they spent the night elsewhere). Inside of the envelope is some kind of voucher! Furthermore, the common area is covered in a bunch of glitter.

Also, there are a ton of eggs in the kitchen – at least 10 dozens.

Florence or Lorelei are still available, should you wish to speak to them.

Finally, you've got some new locations to explore.

OOC NOTE

OOC: Anyone who performed in the Pep Rally (Sabo, Madara, Riku, Shizuku, Herlock, Idia, Flat, Miach) task will be able to redeem a voucher for a prize with one of the NPCs. This can be handwaved, and the prize selection is below.

-Single-serve coffee machine wither a selection of creamer. Comes with packs of coffee beans.
-Popcorn maker and kernels.
-High-quality tea kettle with a selection of just as high-quality tea.
-Carbonation machine (think Sodastream, etc) with flavored syrup.

Any coffee, tea, popcorn, etc. will last characters up to two weeks.

Anyone who participated in the Bulletin Board task will receive a voucher for your choice of two pairs colorful socks with cute animal designs. (Worry frog design available.)

( after all the bumps, drops and tripping of yesterday, shizuku... does not really want to go out much today honestly. so for the first half of the day, she simply does not! although the door is propped open, so anyone is free to drop by her room while she's either resting with the makeshift curtain tied back, at the desk writing something, or sitting on her bed practicing her guitar with the book in front of her.

after that, though, she's a bit more cheerful! so she can be found in the courtyard practicing her kalimba instead, gently plucking away as the sun shines down.

from there, you can find her reading a book through the tablet, as cumbersome as it may be, in the common room with a cup of tea. )

[ oooooh. that's interesting. he's never seen that kind of instrument before (it looks vaguely like a tiny guzheng?), and that's definitely a tune that he doesn't recognise. so he waits for an appropriate break in her practicing before plopping himself in front of her. ]

Oh! Hello. A little... This instrument, not exactly. But I grew up with many instruments, so I like to think I'm good at picking them up!

( the instruction book certainly helps, but once she got the scales figured out it was pretty easy to figure out other songs. )

Hi. [ waves! if he's upset by the effects of whatever weirdness has been happening the past week, he sure is hiding it very well. ]

That's pretty interesting, what else do you play?

[ and here he's gonna lean over and take a peek at the instruction book, but from where he's sitting he's kind of turning his head too so he's not reading it upside down. ]

Is it easy?

I've been teaching myself the accoustic guitar... and my dad taught my sister and I both how to play the bass. It's another string instrument, but it has a longer neck and a more varying amount of strings, depending on the build. My sister took like that to a fish to water, hehe! And my mother plays the piano and the koto, so she taught us a little bit of those. I do enjoy piano...

Although, truth be told, I prefer singing, but all music is wonderful, don't you think?

( the hinomoris are a musical family, in case it isn't clear. perhaps annoyingly so, but they all have a love for it in their heart and in their blood. as he moves over to look, shizuku turns the book slightly for him to see better. )

The kalimba's been very easy to pick up! I just want to be sure. Would you like to give it a try?

(There's music playing and it sounds like it's coming from a stringed instrument. It isn't a shamisen but it makes him curious all the same so he follows the sound of music down the hall until he finds the musician in question.

He waits for a nice break in the song and... pokes his head from the doorway. )

What're ya playing?

( oh! hi!! shizuku waves, and moves her arms just a bit so that he can see it clearly. )

This is an acoustic guitar.

(Nods and steps into the doorway properly,)

Sounds better in person than it does on the tablet.

(Because he has only ever heard recordings of them back home?)

So you can play, huh!

A little! I'm learning right now- if you order an instrument, it comes with a book on how to play.

( how delightful, isn't it? )

Ah, so if everyone gets somethin' then we could have a full band!

(A beginner's band all playing twinkle, twinkle little star.....)

Yes! Wouldn't that be fun? Do you play anything...?

[tosa]

I know a li'l bit of shamisen and some drums.

(Definitely traditional instruments,)

And I know how to sing a bunch of songs! But nothing fancy. The kind of stuff ya sing at a party to get the mood going, y'know what I mean?

Oh, those sound lovely.

( given how her parents are pretty traditional themselves, she can appreciate that. )

I think so! I'm an idol- that is, a type of singer- so that sort of skill is important, but the mood we set tends to be different than parties.

[tosa]

Ah! You're like one of those people on TV then?

(He lights up.)

I've seen 'em perform at New Year shows!

Yes! Goodness, I think I did a new years show last year...? Back when I was with my old group. They're so fun, though!

Amazin'!

(Really, he's excited!)

So that means ya know a lotta songs and dances and stuff. What's your favorite song?

[cheerfuldays]

( oh! that's an unexpected question- but maybe she should have anticipated it. )

Ah- well... of the songs I've sung, I like "Newly Edgy Idols" best. It's the first thing my new group and I sang together- but no one's gotten to hear it just yet because we're still getting started. Other artists though... gosh, I don't know if I can choose!

[tosa]

Wonder if we can hear it here some time. People've been getting a bunch of things from home recently.

(So maybe they can get a CD or something? Who knows!!!)

Just starting out though, huh? I bet it's a lotta work.

[cheerfuldays]

It is. We're completely independent, so we don't have producers, agnets or anything like that either- it's a bit of a crash course on the music industry, but it's the only way we can sing together, so it's well worth it.

[tosa]

Can't say I really know how the entertainment industry works... but I imagine it's pretty rough in its own way.

(He doesn't get it! He was a merchant and a rogue samurai that moonlighted a negotiator.)

I know it's hard making it big for y'all, though. (A lot of entertainers don't make it big, no matter how good they are. That's always been the same for as long as people have tried living off their music and talents,) Guess some things never change even through the centuries.

It can be. But I think it's worth the effort. And once everyone hears us sing, they'll know- MORE MORE JUMP is something incredible. ... I'm really blessed to be a part of them.

[Considering the clumsiness curse of yesterday, Cater really wasn't looking to leave his room much today, either, and yet... echoing up through the floor (or the window, honestly, all he can really tell is it's coming from somewhere close below him) there's the sound of another guitar playing, and he really can't help but be a little curious.

It was always fun to practice with someone else, after all!

So he grabs his own and ventures downstairs, following the sound to the open door of Shizuku and Madara's room - and, honestly, he's not at all surprised, considering. Idols.]

Shizu-chan~? [Knock knock!] Can I join you, maybe~?

[cheerfuldays]

( shizuku perks up and beams, immediately shifting back further onto the bed to make some room. )

By all means! Please, come in. --I could make some tea if you'd like! I received a kettle after the pep rally.

( and it came with!! tea! good tea! she's so very excited, honestly. but also a nice drink while practicing and hanging out with friends is nice, isn't it? )

[And he'll sit himself down on the opposite end of the bed, leaning against the footboard! A respectable distance in a cute girl's bed, if they're just hanging out.]

That sounds nice, but only if it's, like, no trouble for you~

[He's pretty sure she'd say it's no trouble even if it was, but, well. Gotta be courteous, anyway.]

Of course it isn't. Do you have a preference?

( if he takes a look, he'll see green tea, chamomile, black tea, a spiced chai, peppermint and a fruit tea, all lined up properly beside the kettle. )
